Recommendations for hotel near Gare Du Nord

Only staying for 24 hours so it seems easier to be near the station - arriving late evening.
Budget up to £300. Can anyone recommend somewhere nice?

Gare Du Nord isn't the nicest area, but Montmartre / Pigalle are about a 20 minute walk away or a quick Uber, I'd personally look round there!

Vermin · 27/03/2024 12:54

It’s a horrible area and Paris is small so it makes no sense! Hop on the metro and stay somewhere nice. Your budget is plenty.

Noted - where is nice?

I'll check out Pigalle & Montmartre as recommended by @CleanShirt

Do you know Paris at all and what are you doing in your 24 hours? I’d go south from the station to the Marais but if you’re on a sightseeing whistle stop, then it’s hardly any further to the 1st (& you’d get Le Pradey or Relais st Honore in budget right on the doorstep of the Tuileries/ Louvre / opera etc)

I've been a few times but not for years. I'm going to an exhibition at the Pompidou - no other plans. (Won't want to visit Eiffel Tower, Louvre).

Hotel relais les halles is in budget, right by Pompidou and a short walk to the galeries around the Hardin du Palais royal for breakfast / lunch / dinner. I stay at their sister hotel when I’m there and like it very much

I stayed here when it was a Mercure (but Accor has since rebranded it to a 25 Hours) and it was very good. It's literally opposite Gare du Nord so very convenient. I actually had the room on the top floor with the balcony overlooking Gare du Nord in the photo.

Just to add, I used to live in Paris (twice actually) as well as work there on and off for years (commuting from London so in hotels all week) so know Paris very well. I used this hotel when I arrived back in London from living in Asia but needed to collect my pet from from CDG (pet flew to Paris, I flew to London - long story!) so had to hop on the Eurostar from London to Paris, then go to CDG and back to collect my pet, stay overnight in Paris (good excuse for dinner with friends there) and get the TGV from Gare du Nord the next morning to Calais and onwards to the UK.

TLDR: good hotel, very convenient location (for Eurostar, TGV/Thalys, RER & metro) Area is perfectly safe.

25hours Hotel Paris Terminus Nord

Opposite the central Gare du Nord train station, you can find the 25hours Hotel Paris Terminus Nord, which is a declaration of love for the vibrant spirit of this district. Local heroes from the district serve as the inspiration for the interior design...

La Planque hotel is in the 10th arrondissement and not too far from Gare du Nord. In a very cool area, that part of Paris is pretty fashionable now.
It's a gorgeous hotel!

I stayed in the ibis styles there which I think might now be the 25hours mentioned above. It had a hopon hopoff bus stop close by as well as a metro station.

Bramshott · 27/03/2024 14:36

I've also stayed in the hotel @HundredMilesAnHour mentions when it was a Mercure - very convenient for the station.

TinkerTiger · 27/03/2024 14:44

I'm going soon and have booked to stay here OP: www.hotelesteparis.com

10 min walk from the station. Looks nice and reasonably priced.

Oriunda · 27/03/2024 14:53

Check out the Canal Saint Martin area. V close to GDN (can walk there). Or the Marais. V convenient for Pompidou.

Petesbowtie9 · 27/03/2024 15:00

As everyone’s said it’s not a great area but if you literally want somewhere to lay your head for the night then hotel Albert is absolutely fine , cheap , super close to GDN and clean etc

RedRosie · 27/03/2024 15:01

If it's still there, Le Chat Noir hotel Is nice. Fifteen minutes from the station.

Decorhate · 27/03/2024 21:30

I’ve stayed in the Handsome Hotel (!) on Rue Rambuteau, which is very close to the Pompidou Centre and only a couple of stops on the metro from Gare du Nord. Good location, lots going on but was not noisy at night at the same time.

Close to Rue Montorgueil too which I love

SolentBird · 27/03/2024 21:44

We stayed in Hotel Moris in November. It’s two stops on the metro from Gare du Nord but only a 20 minute walk or so. It’s just outside le Marais and near the canal. It was lovely and in that price range, and it’s a nice area with lots of restaurants.

theeyeofdoe · 27/03/2024 22:56

Honestly don't stay there. It's smelly and a bit grim and Paris is fabulous

Chose the attraction you want to go to and stay there instead,

UmaniCaroline · 28/03/2024 05:40

Thank you Mumsnet, so many ideas and tips. I will have a look through them all and find something suitable (& lovely!).

I stayed there, just across the street from the station.
