Haven cot situation

I am coming with a 4 month old, will to hire a travel cot but I noticed it said mattress not Included? So what's the point? Do I need to buy a travel cot mattress an bring it with me?
Lo goes in a crib at home but I won't fit the pram & crib in car with all our clothes aswel.
What do people do?

We didn't realise this when we went away when DD was six months, so had no mattress. Luckily I had sheets with me so just covered the lightly padded base board. She slept fine (they are designed so that this is an option, it's not like putting a baby on a bed frame). It's because of SIDS risk apparently.

Last holiday we had I just checked their measurements would fit our own mattress so took that.

This holiday I'm just bringing our own travel cot and mattress, doesn't seem worth spending £15 to rent only half of what she needs to sleep in.

If only 4 months you can use the pram bassinet if it’s suitable for oversleeping. A full size travel cot may be too big.

@Overthebow I have just swapped tbe pram around to the seat it does recline as he has reflux and kept being sick in the pram, plus I thought be nice for him to be able to see everything on hol 🙈 I do have a doona which I could push him round in but I didn't want him in it all day as its a carseat really

You don't need a mattress for a travel cot, a four month old baby is very light they will not be uncomfortable.

You don't need a mattress for a travel cot. Don't be tempted to add anything softer to the base, they are designed to be used with the base board with thin padding built in to reduce SIDS risk.

@DragonFly98 @Koalaslippers oh right , OK I wasn't sure just with it saying mattress not included. So I can just take some sheets / blankets to cover it and his sleep sack maybe,?

Just a sheet a blanket wouldn't be safe underneath and then a sleep sack or blankets to cover baby. When they say no mattress it still has the correct slightly padded base.

Hotels, camp etc don’t do the mattresses partly hygiene and partly SIDS recommendation that new children have new mattresses - if something happened they’d have to justify how long they’d had it and so on

If it’s a hotel cot though it may not have one of the travel cot bases, it may be a wooden cot. I think hotels don’t provide the mattress because of the side risk of using a mattress that other babies have used. you can buy fold up travel mattresses but op should find out the cot size from the hotel.
