Where would you go for a winter city break?

We are thinking of going away for a few days immediately after NYE before schools go back. We would fly from London. Where do you recommend for that time of year?

Berlin? We went first weekend of December, cold but just wrap up warm. Plenty of things to do indoors to warm up.

I loved Venice in winter

I've done Brussels before and it's amazing. A lovely city to travel round and because all the EU staff / international folk have gone home for the holidays you can get deals on the hotels. We had a romantic weekend at a Hilton for Premier Inn money.

We've done all over Belgium and more recently Lisbon in January which was beautiful

Madrid. Kings Day is 6 Jan so the festive feel is still going.

Athens. All the tourist sites open but deserted, you might get lucky and it will be t shirt weather but even so it will be mild and unlikely to be rainy.

We've been to Munich over New Years and into the first few days of January and it was fab. We've also done Copenhagen in November and loved that too.

We did Rome at that time and it was beautiful.

Having lived there Stockholm and Copenhagen are great in winter.

We did Venice last month. It was lovely. We have also done Jersey and Paris and Rome in winter. Next one is likely to be Prague but I do fancy Copenhagen.

Stockholm, Vienna, Barcelona, Lisbon - all great in winter in different ways. Stockholm and Vienna proper wintery - but Lisbon and Barcelona high teens and sunny.

And Paris - it snowed the day we went to Versailles.
