Luggage question?

So me DH and baby DS will be travelling to Playa Blanca in lanzarote a few months from now. Our flight back to the uk will be at 8:15pm. We are staying in a villa and the check out time is 11am, we have asked the owner if he can make this later but unfortunately he has refused.

Originally we wanted to hire a car but the only reason for this was so we could keep our luggage in it on the last day while we went out and about as we don't want to carry it everywhere with a baby with us and we especially don't want to set off to the airport 8 hours early.

There's no reason for us to pay that much to hire a car as the villa we are staying at is walking distance from all the shops and restaurants. And it is cheaper for us to get a taxi to and from the airport.

Is there any solution as to where we could keep luggage for a few hours on the last day?

Have lunch in a hotel in a convenient place and ask the concierge to store it for you in the hotel's left luggage.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 22/03/2024 13:31

Can you not just get it all packed up and leave in a corner in the villa until later?

The reception area on this villa complex should have a secure area to be able to store luggage for a few hours.

Do not leave it in the villa post check out nor in the boot of a car in case of theft.

I’d hire the car for a couple of days and go to other places for a look around. Then drop it off at the airport before the flight. Many places won’t let you stay longer due to cleaning. If you don’t have a left luggage area it’s not usual to go to a hotel and use theirs. Usually it’s for guests, not diners. When you booked the flight, what did you think you would do?

Ask the villa owner if there is somewhere you can keep luggage. Often they want you checked out so they can clean etc but they are ok to store luggage.

Alternatively, there are now quite a lot of luggage locker type services in towns, it sounds as though you are in a town so have a look on google maps for luggage storage near your villa. We have used these in Italy with no issues.

You could hire the car for just the last day then you could drive yourself to the airport perhaps.

If the villa is on a complex, they might have a luggage storage area you could use.

There's not really many other options to be honest.

We had a similar issue a few years ago. We were in Boston, but found a company that stores luggage for a reasonable charge. May be something similar where you are.

Actually map search doesn’t work well but if you google luggage storage playa blanca you’ll find quite a few options - LuggageHero, Eelway, Nannybag etc

boozeclues · 22/03/2024 14:36

Hire a car when you are over there for a day or two towards the end, it’s much cheeper and you might find you are a tad bored of playa blanca at the end of your trip.

There is some amazing scenery and things to do across Lanzarote

BarrelOfOtters · 22/03/2024 15:26

There are sometimes luggage services that will come pick it all up for you and take to airport so it's there when you check in. That's more usual for the like of NYC and LHR though...but might be worth a google.

BarrelOfOtters · 22/03/2024 15:27

See if you can get a day rate at a hotel near by. So have access to a pool and showers etc....

TakeOnFlea · 22/03/2024 15:31

If the villa complex has a reception area they'll probably store it for you but if not

Never heard of someone hiring a car simply to use the boot before 🤣

If you look on Playa Blanca Facebook there are various suggestions of which hotels do a day pass with courtesy room to shower and change. They charge though per person.
