Hurghada yes or no?

We booked to stay in hurghada in July.
This was booked well over a year ago as it was a great price for a family of 4 and definitely couldn't get a holiday for the price nowadays for 2 weeks all inclusive but now its getting closer we are having doubts about going.

Has anyone been? What was your experience?

lots of security, but had a great time

On the one hand, anything can happen in the Middle East. On the other, Egypt is a repressive military dictatorship with solid backing from the US and tourism is a substantial part of its economy, so they are pretty good at keeping the lid on trouble.

I've been to both Sharm and Hurghada. I enjoyed them both, but I'm a big snorkeling fan.
Keep in mind how hot it will be at that time of year. We went in May and it was pretty hot, and I'm Australian so I am used used to it.

No. Food poisoning galore. Plus security issues.

My mother goes to Turkey every year, she just went here for the first time and absolutely raved and booked another holiday as soon as she got back.

My friend went last year and loved it.

We went in mid February this year and it was perfect. We had a great time. No security issues at all. Would highly recommend! Airport was a little stressful as it was so busy but this is a minor gripe.

I went a few years ago.

Security was fairly tight.

We did a day trip to Luxor and valley if the kings which was amazing.

We didn't leave the tourist area except for the trips, and I don't think I would do - from the minibus there were a lot of checkpoints and blokes with guns.

Was there in November - travelling solo. It was lovely, no issues at all, no dodgy tummy, no hassle, lovely people.
Did Valley of the Kings, Luxor and stargazing.
The hotel was luxurious and the snorkeling fabulous!

Horrendous place. Never again.

We’re going next month. Have been before and to sharm. Absolutely love it there never had any problems

Absolutely hated it. The amount of hassle we got was unreal, it came across as aggressive at times. We tried Sharm since and it was the complete opposite, we’ve booked to go back.

Was there a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it. Great snorkelling . Hotel lovely no problems. Holiday was very resort centric so only left to go to Luxor and didn’t seem to be anything ouside our hotel in Makadi Bay so no strolling on an evening to restaurants/bars . Didn’t see anyone really to get hassled so no issues with that.
It was already starting to heat up though so imagine July will be steaming hot.

I would absolutely not go in July.

It used to be full of Russians. July will be unbearable in the heat. Getting out and about is difficult so you are stuck in the resort. Boring but ok if you like snorkelling. I’d rather do a week going down the Nile. From October onwards. Never in the summer.

Did you go?

Great base to visit Luxor/valley of kings. But the AI thing is quite naff there especially.
