Side, Turkey

Hi. Myself, DH and DS (8) are looking at holidays. We’ve done Tenerife for the last 2 years but we’re looking for somewhere different.
We’ve found Side in turkey which looks like it could meet what we’re looking for, places to walk, things to look at and do, and nice beaches.
However, we’ve never been to turkey before and would appreciate any insights into Turkey or Side if you’ve been.

Following as thinking the same!

Side, near the old town and along the beach, is really lovely. Some excellent hotels , the Barut chain very good. Roman ruins amazing , beach lovely. Lots to do in the area and of course the shopping is an experience. Near the big town of Mangvat ( taxi about 12e or very cheap public buses) which has a beautiful river and plenty of other trips in the area if you looking for days out. Euro widely accepted in tourist areas and available in ATMs. Much prefer Side to Tenerife. Turkey has a very interesting history. Likely to be very hot and crowded in summer though . Lots of friendly and well cared for cats too so not a place if you are allergic to them .

I've not been to Side but I have been going to Turkey for over 30 years and I love it. The people are so friendly, the weather is good, food is wonderful and the history and culture are amazing.

We went in 2019 loved it. The town of side is beautiful the ruins all so well preserved and the glass floored shops littealy looking into perfect history I loved it

It's a lovely town with lots to see and do

Thanks for your comments, we booked it last night! I don’t think we’ll be disappointed. We just needed a change. I’ll be trawling these threads for ideas for next year!

Thank you for this thread @Cloudful as we are in the same position and also looking at Side! We usually have a week in Lanzarote.
