Help! getting to/ from Luton Airport

Am taking my 3 year old DD to London at start of May and have been recommended flying to Luton as its quieter / faster. Have never been though and have no idea how to get into London from there.

Is it easy / fast? Does anyone have experience or do you think i would be better flying to Heathrow or Gatwick? I just want to make it as calm as possible and am worried about possible freak outs on the underground as too busy and also i will have a buggy and a bag.

Any advice gratefully received!!

Where in London are you going?

Need to get to Hampstead the first day which would be easy (i think) from Luton but then going to Old Street area and need to get back to airport from there

You can get a train to St pancras which takes 25 mins. If you don't want to use underground (which I don't blame you with buggy) you could get a taxi. I don't think its too far from old Street to St pancras.

No worries - such an easy journey, Luton's my most fave airport. Come out of arrivals and hop onto a Greenline or Easybus, they will take you straight to the Finchley road in Hampstead. On your return take the metropolitan line from Moorgate (v.close to Old Street) to Finchley road tube and the airport bus goes from just along the road. all v. easy and manageable with 3 yo. Avoid heathrow and gatwick. This is the quickest, cheapest and stress free option!

thanks Googiesmum, have you ever taken the Thames Link train, or is it just as easy to get the bus?

Much much easier to get bus, especially to hampstead. There are about 4 an hour and leave right outside arrivals. Thameslink goes into west hampstead (lots of steps). Never done thameslink to luton as the bus is more convenient for us hamsters - done bus with two suitcases, and 3 yo on my own though.
