Memphis hotels

Hi we’re doing a road trip in July and one of our stop off is Memphis , I’ve been researching hotels and they don’t appeal
Any recommendations budget of £150-200 a night , the hotel doesn’t have to be in the heart of Memphis .
Also can anyone recommend any good tour companies for Graceland ? Please I’m thinking about a private tour
thanks

The Peabody is the famous hotel in Memphis (famous for the ducks - don't miss seeing them!) but no idea of price. Gracelands is surprisingly small so not sure a tour company would be worth it - you can just rent the headphones that take you through the house and grounds.

I can't remember where we stayed but it was central and really lovely. Not the Peabody which is pretty expensive but we went to see the ducks - you don't want to miss them! We just bought tickets online for Graceland then drove there on the day. It isn't big. If you don't have a car i imagine you can get a cab. It is worth a visit.

Thankyou , I’ve been looking at the Grace land hotel this evening 🤔
I would imagine the Graceland tours get busy is there sufficient parking ? Or would you recommend a taxi?

How long will you be there for?

1 or 2 nights I'd stay at Days Inn, 2 min walk to Graceland, clean comfortable but basic. I've stayed there twice for 10 nights each time. And plenty parking.

You can buy tickets for Graceland across the street at the plaza, where the gift shops and museums are. There's different prices depending in what tour you want and a bus drives you over. No ones allowed to.walk up the drive except for early morning maybe 7.30 till 8.30. I'd recommend going then to vist his grave, when it's quiet, it gets really busy later.

We never had a problem parking anywhere in Memphis at any place we wanted to visit, amd there's plenty to do.

I'm so jealous you're going to Memphis, I've been twice but don't think I'll ever get there again 🥲 can you tell I'm an Elvis fan 😅

Oh and if you're a fan, Tupelo is worth a visit too, and only 90 minutes or so by car from Graceland.

@Blueberry06

We went to Graceland pre-pandemic. You definitely don't need a tour, it's much smaller than most people think. Definitely go and see the planes (I think that may be extra to the "standard" admission)

We did drive there - I don't think you can park on site, but we parked at a hotel down the road (for a fee) and they have a regular shuttle bus to take people to Graceland.

The Peabody is far from a budget hotel, but as @Eyesopenwideawake don't miss the ducks!

Can't help with hotels as we stayed in an airbnb.

I stayed in the La Quinta Inn & Suites, 310 Union St. It’s only been opened a few years, so fairly new & has free car parking & breakfast. An easy 10 min stroll to Beale St.

What I didn’t realise about Graceland is it’s not just Elvis’ home, but a large complex of museums dedicated to his music, film, early life, vehicles, costumes etc. There are food places and souvenir shops. I spent about 6 hours in total.

I agree you don’t need a private tour for Graceland. There is a really good audio guide for the house itself, and the museums don’t really need a guide.

I went midweek & there was plenty of car park spaces available & no queue for tickets at the museum entrance. You need to go to the museum entrance first & then get a minibus to take you across the street to Graceland itself.

I also recommend the Civil Rights Museum & Central BBQ around the corner for lunch. And Gus’s Fried Chicken!!

Sun Studio was also good, but you may need to book tickets for this as it can sell out.
