My oldest son is very hardworking and finishes his gcses next summer - i was hoping to plan a more “travelling” type adventure with the family - we also have a 13 year old - but can only really go in august. I had been thinking of vietnam as my husband and i loved thailand and bali but it seems to be rainy season then. Anyone have any suggestions? We have about 3 weeks

Good weather in our summer holidays (very broadly speaking, no guarantees!)

Borneo
Indonesia generally- Java, Lombok, Gili Islands
East coast islands of Malaysia and Thailand
East Africa (Kenya/Tanzania)
Peru (but not the beaches)
Canada
Iceland
Most of Europe

I'd spend that time exploring parts of Europe I haven't seen yet especially Spanish cities for some reason

It will be dry in Central Vietnam (Danang/ Hoian, Hue, Dong Hoi/ Phong Nha cave…).

I'm just looking at Borneo for next summer - it's meant to be dry season then.

minipie · 12/03/2024 12:32

SA is pretty chilly in our summer. Safety is very mixed depending on exact area.

Borneo is definitely dry season then (we went in July for our honeymoon) although obviously there is still rain in the rainforest!

Ginfa · 12/03/2024 15:57

Borneo looks great! Will have to try to work out the costs tho

We're in the same boat and we've just booked flights to Thailand.
We went to Vietnam a few years ago with the kids, at the same time of year, had a lovely time. Weather wasn't an issue.

Even in rainy season it’s often just an hours rain late afternoon.

our summer is a good time for Bali.

what about European interrailing?
