What to wear in Texas in April

Heading to Texas from UK with DP in 3 weeks time, to see the solar eclipse. We reckoned there will be little to no cloud there compared to other states and hopefully plenty of sunshine which will be amazing compared to our local weather.
We’ve never been to the States before and would appreciate your experiences of weather in that area for this time of year.

Looking to be outside of Dallas, perhaps 200 mile radius.
We want to travel as light as possible.

Will I be ok taking hot weather clothes , shorts, T shirts, summer dress or should I pack warm stuff too?

We’re hiring a car so it won’t be back packing but didn’t want to lumber ourselves with hold luggage if we can avoid it( unless it’s worth taking an empty suitcase to fill?!)

I know Texas isn’t your go-to tourist destination so don’t need people telling me that… we’re going regardless !
Appreciate your thoughts and experiences on climate, what to wear, places to stay, nice little towns etc.

Also, we’ve booked only our first night accommodation as we’d hoped to book as we go along and have nothing planned as yet!

Thanks for reading.

Lots of places are booked up for the eclipse (some many months ago!) so you really should think about booking your overnights.

Texas isn't hot in April. Average temp is around 25.

I think (as PP suggested,) you'll struggle finding anywhere decent to stay because, as well as foreigners like us, lots of Americans from more northern/western states will also be heading to Texas. A friend of mine from Chicago is travelling down. It will be extremely busy.

Thanks, both.
25 is good, like a good British summer.

Yeah, maybe an idea to get some accommodation booked now.
