Planning Rome, the title should say! We don’t really know where to start and how close things are. We are going to go in April so need to get the holiday booked and then tickets to places but I don’t want to muck up and waste our time there.

We want to do the colosseum and the trevi fountain. Are they close together and can be done in the same day?

what else did you do in the same day?

thanks.

Following as off to Romein April with DS's 11 & 14 for 3 days. We've booked Vatican and managed to get tickets to watch Roma. The Colliseum is free the first Sunday of the month so hoping we can go early and not have to queue too long. Love the look of the Vespa tour, but already spent a fortune on the football tickets so not sure the budget will stretch.

Getting Sperlonga: There is a train that leaves hourly from Termini. The train ride to Fondi-Sperlonga takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes. Then you can take with a bus or a taxi for a 15 minute ride to town.

Cheapest solution for getting to Sperlonga from Rome: The €14 all day ticket (7 zones) for Lazio gives you the freedom of the region for 24 hours (regional trains only; includes all trams, metro and buses in Rome as well). Ask for a €14 BIRG at one of the newspaper stands in Termini.

Coop culture website (official site to book the colosseum / forum tickets) now seems to be working again, it wasn’t a few weeks ago

Tickets released 30 days ahead as pp said so do book now if you can. Tickets with Arena are worthwhile if available.

Trevi fountain square is sadly full of instagrammers.

There is a cat rescue in the ruins where Julius Caesar was stabbed… win win for my cat loving history loving DD…

People have said we may be too late now as they get booked up way in advance?

YOu can just queue up on the day if you need to

Icystars · 13/03/2024 09:58

Does both the pink and shaded boxes mean nothing is available? Can’t seem to click on either.

Looks like only the 25th is available.

minipie · 13/03/2024 10:24

When are you looking to go? I can see availability for the ordinary €18 Colosseum plus Forum ticket for 2nd through to 12 April. Link here

For the ticket including Arena area, there’s a few left on 10 and 11 April only. Link here

minipie · 13/03/2024 10:27

Were you trying to get the tickets with the underground bit as well? Those are fully sold out as far as I can see - IME they sell out within seconds of release

Icystars · 13/03/2024 10:39

Yes it was for the arena as well. Can’t click on the pink, the shaded or the white so I’m not sure what the deal is.

I have found some tickets for over £200 for the 4 of us but will check out @minipie links above. Thank you.

The white may be more than 30 days away.

LIZS · 13/03/2024 10:44

Don't get too hung up on the full access tour, you can still see plenty from above.

Icystars · 13/03/2024 10:51

I think that website is playing up for me. I can book through viatour so might do that. Is £200 reasonable for a family if 4 or would I get it cheaper if I persevered with the coop one?

OP posts:
LIZS · 13/03/2024 10:52

Cheaper via coopculture.

Icystars · 13/03/2024 10:57

Ah so annoying. Is it a lot cheaper? Don’t know whether to just get it booked up and cry later at the expense 🤣

OP posts:
LIZS · 13/03/2024 11:05

24e according to www.coopculture.it/en/products/full-experience-ticket-with-access-to-the-arena-and-underground-of-the-colosseum/. Under 18s free, (18-25 may qualify for concessions) but you need to book places.

minipie · 13/03/2024 11:10

You should see some green squares, these are days with availability. My links that I posted definitely show green squares on the dates I mentioned. If you can’t see any green squares then maybe try a different device?

Icystars · 13/03/2024 11:20

I can but when I try to book it says ‘error, no availability’. Thanks for your help though! Appreciated.

OP posts:
Icystars · 13/03/2024 11:28

For £170 I’ve found a colloseum guided tour. Doesn’t include arena though. Or the £200 which also includes the forum and p hill. Decisions.

Just tried, I can’t seem to add to basket, no error message but it just does nothing. Sorry! How frustrating

Icystars · 13/03/2024 11:32

No worries. At least I know it’s not just me being silly.

would you have any recommendations about which your we should do? £170 just colosseum or £200 with arena and p hill and forum included? Prob only get there once in my life so want to do it right.

OP posts:
soupfiend · 14/03/2024 19:36

Thats stupid money, just queue up on the day, get there early and get a 48 hour ticket for the forum, the colleseum (which will include the arena but not the underground) and also palentine hill, it was about 20 odd euro from memory the other week

The arena is just a small bit by the way, nothing you cant see from walking round the walls

MadeForThis · 14/03/2024 20:12

Tickets come out on the coop culture website 30 days in advance and often sell out within minutes. Especially for the underground tour and the arena tour.

We booked the tour in Italian as it was easier to get than the English one. Obviously couldn't understand a lot but seeing the whole underground was worth it.

It's worth checking at random times tho because sometimes a green box can just appear.

You can buy General admission tickets on the day but will have to queue.

You have to provide passport ID to get inside. Although it can be a photo on your phone.

Working here, but only up to a month ahead.
