Have a look on superbreak.com for special offers. You can usually upgrade to dinner , B&B for an extra 20 pounds.

Lake district is v. expensive. I stayed at a hotel on windermere - i think it is called the Hotel on the Lake, and it was very expensive and somewhat pretentious - disappointing.

ambleside is lovely.

Salmling is lovely, you can get deals on last minute sometimes.

Have not been to the drunken duck but know people who have and they say it is lovely.

How far are you from Chesire, we went to Numsmere Hallfor valentines once and it was lovely.

Agree Drunken Duck, Samling (never been, too expensive for dinner), Merewood/Cragwood. There are lots of nice places. If you are vegi, I can recommend a lovely rural retreat.

The Cottage in the Wood on the Whinlatter Pass. Went for 2 days for my honeymoon - fantastic place - food out of this world, and Liam and Kath wonderful hosts! Would love to go back myself!
