Never been, looking for some recommendations. Picked it for the mix of city and beach / pool. Thinking city wander in the mornings, lunch and head to the beach in the afternoons. Will be myself, which I am really looking forward to! Appreciate any hotel recommendations too.

Its brilliant. You will love it. There are also boat trips you can take that depart from the marina. And the tram runs all the way up to Benidorm but with lots of pretty places to visit if you want to wander further one day. I would particularly recommend el campello or villajoyosa.

Hotels. Depends on the time of year. If it will be hot the melia is lovely and has an outdoor pool. Which is sunny in the mornings and a sundeck which stays in the sun in the afternoon with a bar. The grand sol is decent too but no outside space.

The museum in the marina about the round the world yacht race is also well worth a visit.

Town is busy and safe all evening. And fine to grab a table and have tapas and watch the world go by.

It sounds wonderful! I love a solo jaunt myself so you've peaked my interest in Alicante!

That's great thanks! I am excited to look in to where to stay and just have some time myself.

Alicante is a great city. Pick a hotel near the marina or in the old town. Melia is good.

The main town is very walkable. Lots of great tapas places. A walk up to the fort around sunset is worth it. The beach is small but has a nice buzz day and into the evening, feels very safe.

Some of the tall tower block type hotels have roof bars. Nice to go there for a coffee/tinto de verano and soak up the views.

Elche is a nice town worth visiting, quaint old town with cathedral, gorgeous palm trees everywhere, lovely botanic gardens, nice cafes.

Thanks, some lovely suggestions. Tempted by Melia hotel. Looking forward to a mix of sunbathing (going mid May) and browsing the town

Alicante city is awesome, such a lovely city break, not much English is spoken, but the people are so kind and helpful. If you visit the Market, there is a wonderful market cafe behind it, that is so fabulous, and the hub of the community, would highly recommend. We loved our break there. You have the beach, and everything is in quarters, shopping, restaurants, marina, beach etc. You can take the train, to the out of town outlet shopping, further to chocolate factory, or even as far as Benidorm. One of the nicest city breaks we have ever had.
