Punta Cana

Hi, anyone been to Dominican Republic? Is it good for families and safe?? It looks lovely but have heard Dominican Republic isn't that safe. But surely would be ok in a resort?
Is Punta Cana nice or are there nicer areas?

I have been and it is beautiful, but I'm not sure on the safety. We didn't really leave our resort, apart from one organised day trip.

We had an amazing Rep at our hotel and she would go out and buy things you needed as she did say tourists get ripped off.

I personally prefer St Lucia, been twice and we have left the resort to go into the city and a street party. The people are amazing!
