Portable DVD players, battery life and headphones - advise anyone?

We're off to the US in a few weeks and were going to buy a portable DVD player for our 2yr old but it looks like the battery will only last approx 2hrs. Is this true that it will only last 2hrs? Also, do we need to buy him headphones, I am concerned about damaging his hearing with them? One more thing, can anyone recommend a good portable DVD player that doesn't cost too much?

All advise gratefully received! Thanks

We have an 80MB ipod, and downloaded ds2's favourite DVDs onto it. The battery life lasts for over 8 hours and it can fit in my handbag, so useful whenever we are out and about. I have over the ear headphones for him, and as I can lock the settings, he can't turn up the volume too high. For us this is much easier than a dvd player though you do have to download the dvds in advance (but children at this age seem to watch the same dvd over and over again, so worth it for kids, less so for adults).

Our portable dvd player is about 4 years old, so there are better/smaller models available now.

Battery will last approx length of 2 movies. DD has inexpensive headphones as she wouldn't be able to hear audio with airplane background noise otherwise. Check volume before you put headphones on your ds.

We have a Shinco which I found from another post on mn. It is multi region and the battery lasts about 3 hours, however we bought an extra battery so we could rotate. For dd we used the big padded earphones as they were less likely to slip off. I think ot was about £150 all in about a year ago. We went to Oz and dd did'nt need it on the plane as she was in awe of her own tv on the headrest.
Happy holidays.

i bought sony one for dd, advertised as 6 hours battery but we have only ever had 3.5. would be interested if anyone found one that truly lasted 6 hrs.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts, I think we will just have to buy one and hope 2hrs ish is enough battery for a 9.5hr flight!
