I haven’t done this before but we really need a change of scenery.

so hoping to take my DC12 and DC15 away for a few days where we can wander around , eat good food, swim, see some scenery, short haul, a busy town rather than a city.

i wouldn’t go to marbella or Dubrovnik. I don’t love France. Food is the important thing - pizza pasta fish, salads, good fruit, grilled meat. Italy a fave but not Rome - too hectic.

looking for tried and tested places where you were able to hop in a cab from the airport and and arrive at a lovely relaxing hotel!! Or a train. I speak Spanish and French and can understand/Get by in Italian.

Milan. Easy access on bus from airport. Bologna is brilliant if you use it as a base. Easy access from airport. Venice - water taxi! It’s a glorious entry to a city. Not sure about Florence airport. Only visited by train. Palma airport. Palma itself is easy to get to and lovely. All have great restaurants.

Lisbon? Really easy public transport to and from the airport.

Pigeonqueen · 03/03/2024 20:44

Ibiza. The whole island can be easily accessed via taxi.

Malaga. Train journey straight from airport and easily accessible on foot once there.

Cologne or Munich are great for food and transport links - but on beach.
Also Porto, lovely food and beautiful beach.

Cascais near Lisbon would tick most of those boxes.

Valencia is very easily accessible from airport by taxi or public transport and has the beach. Don't know about hotels as we did self-catering.

Pisa, Italy
Valletta, Malta

Palma is a 25-Euro taxi ride from the airport, plus there is a great bus network to explore the rest of the island. Mallorca has a couple of drunken lads resorts but they are easily avoided. (You didn't mention what dates you were thinking of, btw.)

I found Rome too busy as well. Milan has very good food, some good sights and nice gardens. Naples too, bonus if you like archeology as Pompeii is a train ride away.

I was going to recommend Palma too. The bus service is good.

Malaga or Lisbon. Also Split and Pula (Croatia) Lots of parts of the Algarve close to Faro airport.

Barcelona would be good. Easy bus from airport into the city. Lots to see and do plus beaches!

GaladrielHiggins · 04/03/2024 08:12

Malaga, you can either get a taxi or a short train ride, short flight as well

Doglover19 · 04/03/2024 08:18

I agree Barcelona. The buses were easy accessible and the underground tube system is amazing . We only got a taxi to our hotel used the bus and then the underground the rest of our stay.

Alicante. Very close to the airport. Bus or taxi takes under 20 minutes.
