I last went on a cruise 5 years ago but it was a p&o one so looking for advise on what people wear to dinner on an evening.

I've read that even on the formal nights people don't really dress up that much.

Does anyone have any experience?

Yes, we have sailed with RC, approx 10 years ago, 5 years ago and last year. Overall formal nights were far leas formal last year. Some stayed pretty casual but there were plenty of people in cocktail dresses and lounge suits but 10 years ago the range was more like black tie down to cocktail.

The non-formal nights were smart casual with a couple of theme nights (colour theme or similar).

Cruised on both p&o and RC last year - RC was significantly more casual and we really stood out in the minority wearing evening gowns and tuxedos whereas on p&o that was the norm

I think a nice cocktail dress and jacket and tie is fancy enough on RC these days
