Borneo with teens

Am thinking of somewhere to mix some city and wildlife maybe a day or so of beach as well and something that seems to fit the bill is Borneo. Would be summer 2025

But.....I have been to Thailand once about 25 years ago pre children.

Am wondering how my youngest who is 12 will manage.

Suppose I am wary of getting bitten / leeches etc etc! Squat toilets etc! Is it easy to find bottle drinking water everywhere?

Trailfinders seem to have a private 5 day tour around the sabah area which seems to cover the main bits we would want to see - other than turtles which I think may be out of bounds for FCO reasons. Then a few days in Kuala Lumpur or maybe Singapore but that may be a bit pricey.

@40somethingme I am booking through freedom destinations.

It's about £11k for 3 of us - that's flights, all transfers, all meals except KL which is b&b, the private tour guide, entrance fees etc. that may change with BA flights - I'll have to make a decision then. We will be going July after schools break up so peak time.

I am sure it is cheaper doing DIY but don't fancy for this - it's quite alot of travel etc.

One think to look at is some places seem to think an adult is 12+ so will book you 2 rooms - mine are both girls so we are all happy to share one room but doesn't look like we can everywhere.

We went last year.. 2 adults, 2 older teens for 14 nights. Flew to KL, then Sepilok. Flights were £5,000 international and domestic.
Did 4 days in Sepilok before going to into the Forest for 3 nights, then flew to KK before heading home with a couple of nights in KL. It cost about £16,000 all in but because of our DC being over 12 we needed 2 rooms everywhere we stayed.
