Addicted to Holidays

I’m addicted to travelling. I just love researching them, booking them, flying, train travel, seeing different places and cultures.

I’ve spent around 20% of my take home this year on travels. I do save money every month but could save a lot more if I didn’t travel.

How do you wean yourself off them? It’s not even anything lavish, I get cheapest deals on everything.

I am going on more holidays this year than before , I like to come home and have the next one to look forward to .
I don't think you need wean yourself off them , travel has so many benefits . Travel to everywhere you want to go because you don't know what the future holds .

But if you enjoy it (and who doesn’t), why try and cut down? It’s money well-spent imo. There will come a day when you won’t be able to travel. Make the most of it.

Why wean off them? Are you saving for a house or something specific that is hampered by your holiday spends?

I was the same as you, I still am even though I'm old now. I will only stop when I am unable to board a plane.

Travel is one of life's great pleasures, especially as you say - the research beforehand, which is often more fun the actual trip itself - but no, of course that's not true!

If you enjoy it, can afford it and are happy ... What's the problem?

GettingStuffed · 04/03/2024 01:51

Our finances have recently changed so we're having more "holidays" in reality these are long weekends to watch away matches for either rugby or cricket.

We will at some point have a proper holiday too

Unless you’re getting into debt, keep doing it. I so miss my old life of travelling whenever I wanted before having kids.

Ilovelurchers · 04/03/2024 04:57

If you can afford it it seems a valid way to spend your money to me....

This might not be on your radar at all, but something that I decided a few years ago was that I was flying way too much, and the impact on the environment made me uneasy so I switched to more UK holidays or ferry crossings. Don't know if that is something you would consider at all...

Sorry if I sound a fun sponge!
