October half term with kids - Madeira? Somewhere else?

Kids will be 8 and 12. Wouldn’t mind somewhere warm, doesn’t have to be hot, but enough we could comfortably sit outside and play on a beach. Scenery and walks are good too. We don’t want an AI package hotel but also wouldn’t mind a bit of a treat place to stay! Any suggestions of where would be good in Europe at that time?

We had a lovely Oct half term holiday at Columbia Beach hotel, Cyprus.

I wouldn’t take children to Madeira. The Canaries comes to mind. Look at Tui or Jet2.

Madeira is on my list- DS would love the Ronaldo museum.

Lanzarote and Cyprus both lovely weather in October.

Another option is Andalusia/costa del Sol- Malaga, Seville, Estepona.

My DD loved Madeira at those ages. There is only one (man made) beach on the island though. Lots of lidos dotted around the coast.

Majorca? Small enough to hire a car and explore lots of the island. Public transport is quite good too.

I've just returned from Madeira and although I enjoyed it, I'm not sure there would be enough to keep children occupied.

Thanks, maybe not Madeira then! What are Cyprus and the Canaries like if you don’t just want to play in the pool and lie on the beach?

We went to Cyprus and Lanzarote in the last October week. We had a day of rain but mainly warm enough weather to be in Shorts/T-Shirts sightseeing and swimming in the pool.

But outside the sun in the afternoon it started getting chilly, so layering up is definitely necessary.

I would go back to Cyprus in a heartbeat, we really enjoyed it and there is a lot to see and do.

Majorca. Depends when in October you go but weather is generally great to the end of the month.

How about Valencia? There's a beach nearby and the "The City of Arts and Sciences" has plenty to do for kids. Alternately Barcelona or Malaga, both of which have city beaches. Malaga is likely to be warmer.

I think Canaries are good with kids.
