Las Palmas De Gran Canaria - city break destination?

Would really welcome any experiences you have.

I'm very familiar with mainland Spanish cities (Barcelona, Tarragona, Malaga, Reus) but with a last minute break to be booked, want warmer than these cities offer just now.

Anyone been?

How long are you planning on going for?
We had a day there and enjoyed it, but not sure how much else there was to see in the town. Las Canteras beach is a little out of the town, if it were me I'd stay there and get a bus into the town but then I like being by the water and would like to sit in the sun reading an hour or so each day. I'm guessing the accommodation in the beach area might be more conducive to that.

On yet another rainy cold day here, I'd just go for the warmth!

Thanks, yes it would be a seven night trip. We like tapas restaurants, old buildings, typical old squares, parks etc.

Bonus if we could hire bikes.
Although we do go to the beach or pool, this is usually for an hour at a time, at best!

And definitely dislike the typical Spanish costa/ brits abroad vibe.
