Business Class once or Premium Economy multiple times

So we have a modest amount of airmiles to use.

We fly long haul maybe once or twice a year. We have enough airmiles to do a return flight in business class or upgrade multiple trips to premium economy.

Is it better to fly Premium Economy as a minimum for flights, or to splash to cash/points and go Business Class.

Most flights are 9 hours or so (visiting family).

Business is lovely but for the cost (points) difference I wouldn’t bother unless it’s super long haul - NZ/Aus for example. I think 10 hours or less (US/SA etc)is ok in premium.
That said, you get more bang for your buck by upgrading when using points so you might want to factor that in.

I’d split the difference so if you’re going on 2 long hauls and if for example it’s the US then I’d try to do premium out on the day flight and back business on the night flight for the flatbed both times.

I would definitely do business. Having done both the business flights are definitely more special than premium economy which is basically just more space.

I’m really happy with premium so I would pick doing that lots of times. Last year I flew to LA Business and thoroughly enjoyed it, then later in the year flew premium to Florida and thought it was excellent.

HanaJane · 01/03/2024 16:20

I would pick the premium every time rather than business once then lots of trips in economy

Premium definitely

Howareu · 01/03/2024 18:26

I would opt for premium economy for daytime flights and business for overnight flights

Premium, especially if there are two of you- most p/e set ups have pairs of seats by the window so it's quite private, and a big step up from economy. Business is lovely but as a solo traveller the biggest plus is that it insulates you from being right next to a random stranger!

See I would do the opposite enjoy business on the day flight and do economy on the night. What's the point of the treat if you just sleep.

I value comfort over quantity so I would choose business class every time. I recently did LHR-MEL via Doha and would have hated to do that in economy.

A good nights sleep is the treat!

Nevermindtheteacaps · 01/03/2024 19:59

Premium as business class is awful from a climate change perspective

Lovethatforyouhun · 02/03/2024 18:24

Depends on the flight times. Over night - business, day time PE.

Inspirationfailure · 02/03/2024 18:27

I’d just use the miles to pay for flights in economy and then use the cash saves to book another holiday.
