it's only about half an hour drive but actually getting into Gibraltar through the border can be v slow...

there's not very much worth seeing imo.

Definitely a day trip. Have done, pre kids, from estepona way to gibraltar. We parked in La Linea (think it's called) and then walked over the border. Quite exciting because you practically cross the runway.
Is OK, very very very cheap stuff to buy. Apes on the rock. M&S and british police. Haven't been with children though.

Thank you for your replies. It sounds like it would be good for shopping but not much else is that right? Not sure DD would suffer that quietly.....!!

Pretty much. There's great shopping in Marbella/Puerto Banus.

oh that's great - thanks for that!

Don't want to upset anyone but I think Gibraltar is a bit of a dump-not somewhere I would take a 15mt old.Other than the apes on the rock there isn't much to do or see.
Amidaiwish is right-shopping is far better in Marbella or Banus.

Selwo safari park is probably worth a visit for you though-it's just outside Estepona.

we always fly into Gibraltar (stay in Sotogrande) and it is interesting to see UK Police, pelican crossings etc. And the rock is quite "ooh, look at that".

But I wouldn't bother a special trip unless you want to go to the M&S, Safeway etc! Pooka's advice to park in La Linea (the Spanish side) and walk through is good, the queue to get across can take hours.

Puerto Banus is a great day trip. Swanky boats, fantastic shopping - from top designers to Mango, plus El Corte Ingles (think Spanish John Lewis). Lots of restaurants on the port front and a big sandy beach at the far end. (Leave dh and dc at the beach and go shop in peace!!). There's a very family friendly restaurant called "Jacks" on the port front, like TGI Fridays. More American than Spanish, but fantastic if you want dc to have a good meal as they'll do jacket potatoes with cheese and beans etc etc. plus vegetables (a rarity in Spain it seems).

ooh, am going in June, getting excited

I liked Gibraltar (especially for the price of Bombay Sapphire Gin and Jamesons ).....

Thoroughly enjoyed my tour of the rock and the apes on the rock were highly amusing but not a great day out for a 15mo, I would agree!
