We are planning a road trip as a family 2 adults, Ds1 - 10 yr old, Ds2 - 8 year old and Dd 2 year old. Can you give me your top places to go to In North of Spain and south to North of France.

We loved Galicia last year in late spring, but we are in our 60s. The Rias Baixes area from La Corunna southwards has lovely beaches and is very popular with Spanish people for holidays. The Bay of Biscay coast also has pleasant towns and lots of resorts, but the waves are bigger for your LO. It's also busy because of all the pilgrim trails to Santiago di Compostela.

We did this last year (2 adults, 2 kids aged 8 and 10) and on the way down stayed in Boulogne Sur Mer, Poitiers and San Sebastián. We probably enjoyed San Sebastián the most but also stopped for a couple of hours in Bordeaux. On the way back we stopped in Bilbao - which was great although a nightmare to park, Niort (which was nicer than it sounded) and had a pit stop in Rouen and then in Boulogne sur Mer again. We took it easy and tried to drive no more than 6 hours a day and stop off for lunch/sightseeing. Traffic was worst around the border between France and Spain and around Bordeaux. We’re planning to drive again this summer but to Lisbon so may go a slightly different route which will definitely include San Sebastien at some point.
