Best beach 2 hours from Manchester

I'm going through a difficult time. I want to go on a solo little trip. 3 nights away air BnB. I want to be near a beach or a lake/river. I don't want to have much contact with people. I just want to go for walks on my own and soak in some nice views. I don't want to drive more than 2 hours from Manchester to get there.

Where would you recommend?

Thanks in advance 🙂

Loads - Lake District, Cumbrian coast, north wales - did you have any specific requirements?

I'd probably go and stay in the Midland in Morecambe and spend some time in Lytham St Anne's.

If you could stretch to 3 hours then go to Northumberland and there are miles and miles of beautiful beaches....Alnwick would be my stop of choice.

Fly to the Isle of Man, stay in Peel or Port Erin and walk for as long as you like on glorious cliff footpaths or miles of beaches.

I'd head for Anglesey. Or the Dee side of the Wirral peninsula.

BarrelOfOtters · 26/02/2024 11:24

Neston/Parkgate on the Wirral is glorious and miles of walking.

@Candleabra I want to do minimal driving once I'm there. I just want to go for walks from my accommodation to the the beach or river/ lake.

I'd stay in lytham! You can walk for miles on the front, to fairhaven lake then onto St Anne's and the beach then carry onto Blackpool and get the tram back so far.

There lovely restaurants and tearooms in both at Anne's and Lytham.

Grassmere. We had a great week without a car last summer. There’s a good bus between there and Windermere if you want to explore a bit.

Silverdale and Arnside are good. Some art galleries and cafes in both, goodcwalk up Arnside Cragg.

Gwynedd? Portmeirion Mediterranean village and beach would be a really lovely day out on your own. There are hotels in PortMeirion too.

West Kirby on the Wirral has a nice beach and a lake you can walk around. It's about 1 hours drive from Manchester.
