Weather in the Greek islands early April

To anyone who has been to any of the Greek islands in early April, what was the weather like? I’d really like to go to either Crete or Rhodes but not sure if this time of early is too weather wise. I work in education so bound by the school holidays and May half term is really expensive and it’ll be too hot for me in August so that leaves early me with early April.
If anyone has been to a hotel with a heated pool and indoor pool (rare in the Greek islands I think) and would recommend it that would be good to know of. TIA.

I live in Rhodes ☺️
Yesterday we had 23c (today it's storming but still..)
April is generally a lovely warm month. Not HOT by any means but I'd say mid 20s most days. A bit chillier in the night. The problem is that none of the outdoor pools are heated in the hotels generally. Saying that I have my first sea swim in April most years so it depends how comfortable you are with chilly water. There are people that swim all through winter here though.
IMO it's a lovely time to visit, more relaxed and you get a real feel for the place.

@lolomoon It’s so helpful to hear from someone who lives in Rhodes - thank you. Which area might you recommend in Rhodes to stay? Also some of the other posts mention that restaurants aren’t always open that time of year - is that your experience?

You might find that there is less choice than peak summer but there will definitely be a good choice. Have a look at Lindos. It's in the south of the island. It's a stunning white washed village with plenty of restaurants, shops and bars etc. beaches are incredible too.
At that time of the year it's a great opportunity to either rent a car and explore the island or use the busses.
If I knew how to access private messages I'd say drop me one if you need any help. 🥰

DS, DIL and DGD(2) went to Corfu in early May last year. They had one nice sunny day and one fairly nice afternoon. The rest of the week it rained.
They are going camping in Wales this year.

Another vote for Cyprus, been in February before and it has been lovely

@lolomoon Thank you for the suggestion. I’ll definitely take a look at Lindos.

@lolomoon Thank you for the suggestion. I’ll definitely take a look at Lindos.

Lindos is lovely but the area west of Lindos was hit by the fire last year. In 2022 we stayed in a resort just 15 minutes drive from Lindos and it was partly burned down in 2023.

@lolomoon - I do hope the area recovered, while I found it far too hot in August, I loved what we saw on Rhodes. It is a great island.

We stayed near Lindos early April a few years ago and it was lovely! Much quieter at that time of year but plenty of shops, restaurants and bars open. It was great to visit without the crowds and the locals were so friendly and welcoming as well. They'd all call out "kalimera!" as we walked past in the mornings. They all seem to love kids as well. Our DS was treated like royalty.

Definitely rent a car as it's so easy to get about. We had mixed weather - a few days were hot and sunny and perfect for the beach and a swim in the sea. Other days were more cloudy but you'd be fine in a jumper or light jacket. It was perfect weather for exploring. The pool was like ice though!

Rhodes was lovely in April: great for exploring and so much quieter without the cruise ship hordes. It felt like a real place people live, not just a holiday "theme park". Highly recommend. Had to change planes at Athens though.

Were cafes and restaurants open then? Was the sea warm enough for kids to have a bit of a splash about in?

StickMum · 03/02/2025 14:39

@kkelly82 where did you end up going? Similarly needing to plan in school holidays and looking for a longer trip in April

minipie · 03/02/2025 14:46

We had a holiday booked for Crete in late April one year. For various reasons it had to be cancelled. I wasn’t sad as the weather forecast was for wall to wall rain.

Suggest Marrakech

Yes to cafes and restaurants. Maybe not everything but plenty.
No idea about the sea; not my thing really.

Following with interest as thinking of going Greek island hopping in the Easter holidays a few years hence! Happy with low -mid 20s. Would the Docadecanese be a good group to head for?
