in October for a bit of sunshine and something to do apart from the beach, e.g. historic sites, interesting towns and villages, walking routes? Where is it warm enough at the end of October to still go swimming?

We went to Calis beach near Fethiye last October and had a great time. Sea was warm, pools at hotel weren't but were fine with sun on them. This was a with kids and beach holiday so no walking but there were trips to nearby mountains happening. We went to Fethiye, did a boat trip, could have done other stuff easily had we not been busy swimming and flopping! I would like to try further up the coast (Bodrum) area this year or not finance depending.

We're very lucky that my brother and his wife retired to Calis Beach about 12 yrs ago.
We go quite often and they know loads of nice places to go .

We really enjoyed Istanbul. So much to see and do.

October is the perfect time to walk some of the Lycian Way
Goes through plenty of historical sights and beautiful little villages

Kayakoy, close to Fethiye. Its has a 'ghost village' where Greek Christians used to live in harmony with the Turks. The hiking is fantastic.

The village itself has good restaurants and its close to Fethiye, Olu Deniz and Hisaronu.
