Rome colosseum

Dishwashersaurous · 22/02/2024 22:04

This is a very specific question but I'm hoping that the collective mind will help.

We are going to Rome in April. And I'm trying to book tickets for the colosseum which is the priority.

However, every time I try and book the website refuses to access and then it kicks me out.

Has anyone got round this problem?

Have you tried all the usual "IT isn't working" stuff?

  • Multiple web browsers
  • Multiple devices
  • Try at work or on mobile data versus WiFi, so you have a different IP address
  • Wait 48 hours and try again

If all else fails, you can just turn up on the day and pay a couple of Euros more.

(This reply isn't meant to sound snarky, so apologies if so — I get the exact same feeling when Another Stupid Fucking Website Doesn't Fucking Work Like It's Meant To!)

EwwSprouts · 22/02/2024 22:18

If you are going over Easter, there is free entry on the first Sunday on each month.

LIZS · 22/02/2024 22:18

Coop culture website?

Dishwashersaurous · 22/02/2024 22:18

Yep I've tried everything and it says that I'm blocked, which seems to imply that it's because it's going from a UK server.

Yep it's the coop culture website

Which web site are you on? These types of attractions tend to attract many scammers or semi-scammers who just re-sell the tickets from the actual site, which is often run by kindly but clueless civil servants who don't know that they are result number 47 on Google.

NotAPsycho · 22/02/2024 22:23

There is a bot that books them for other resellers I reckon as they all disappear within a minute of being available and you have to be very lucky/time it right. It took me 3 days of pretty much constantly being on it and they release tickets about every half hour up to about 6pm I think...plus you put things in your basket and it doesn't reserve them for you at that point so you literally have to pay really quickly too.
I found the booking form confusing at too at first but you don't have to pay for children but do need to add tickets for them, if I am remembering correctly...I will check my emails and if I can find anything will post it.

itisneverending · 22/02/2024 22:26

Last Easter we found all tickets had been purchased by tour operators for many of the Italian attractions. I booked through a tour operator on Tripadvisor who had good reviews. Think it was viatours.

NotAPsycho · 22/02/2024 22:30

Coopculture.it is the proper site (not a reseller) and the only one I found where you didn't have to pay for children and to go including to the underground section tour cost 25 euro for an adult.

Dishwashersaurous · 22/02/2024 22:31

Thanks all.

I can find loads and loads of tickets via third party sellers but want to book direct if possible.

And I want to make sure that I get tickets so that we can visit, but I really don't want to have to pay double via a third party seller

Thanks. That's the site I'm trying to get on but it won't allow me onto the booking page.

Interesting, we are visiting next week and Ive been looking at all these sites with tickets for this and that

Am I being too naive to think we're just going to rock up and pay at the entrance?

Is it a huge disadvantage to do that?

Im finding all the options overwhelming

This is the error message I'm getting:

Why have I been blocked?
You have received a 403 error message while trying to access this website. This is because the website owner has chosen to block your IP address or country from accessing this website.

Oh Ive just realised I was in that website earlier

I was looking at the joint ticket for the colosseum, palantine and forum, I couldnt make head nor tail of the prices, it came up as 18 euros but then had a list of costs underneath

I also noticed that it doesnt include the arena or underground bit of the colosseum or the iii level (and I dont even know what any of those are)

thaisweetchill · 22/02/2024 22:39

I went the middle of July and just booked with a tour guide outside, was very insightful and you can barter the price.

BrambleJamandCustard · 22/02/2024 22:42

In November, I just arrived and paid. Didn’t look into any pre bookings. Didn’t have any issues. Not sure if busier in Spring.

Hope you have a lovely time! I stayed right next to the Colosseum. Did a bit of everything. So much walking - bring decent shoes!

Eat where the Italians are eating (not on the obvious main streets). Just walk a few more places along. Much cheaper and more quality to the dishes.

Definitely going back at some point but will again avoid the height of summer :)

NotAPsycho · 22/02/2024 22:43

They only allow bookings from the site about a month in advance and every day release tickets for the next date available, but not all the tickets at once, different times for the slots available about every 30-60 mins. You will only really see one day available in green to book or possibly other dates if cancellations have happened. I would say that the people at the end of the email address are absolutely lovely as I mistakenly booked just an adult ticket so needed a refund for that one and they did it really quickly.
It is time intensive to get these tickets as you have to be quick and you may get so far in the process and then your ticket will disappear, but you will learn about the booking process which will speed you up for the next time! I was almost at the point of writing something myself to automate it and do what the bots do.

Hohofortherobbers · 22/02/2024 22:44

We went last March, we booked the day before with free cancellation on 'get your guide'. Really good website. Tour included roman forum as well. No need to book so far in advance.

Dishwashersaurous · 22/02/2024 22:46

I went years ago and just rocked up.and got tickets.

However, I'm now so used to having to prebook absolutely everything is advance these days so thought I'd need to do the same

OP posts:
LIZS · 22/02/2024 22:46

Attractions with limited capacity like Vatican museum and Villa Borghese are worth prebooking.

I don't think coopculture.it is the official site of the Colosseum. It claims to be a cultural cooperative organisation with branches and/or services all over Italy, with its base in Venice. In fact on their own page for the Colosseum https://corporate.coopculture.it/it/poi/colosseo/ there is a link to what they say is the actual official site, https://parcocolosseo.it/. However, that seems to be down at the moment.

Google Maps, which is usually fairly solid, says the official site is https://colosseo.it/. This too is down at the moment. Some DNS nerdery suggests that parcocolosseo.it and colosseo.it are synonyms.

Anyway, I'd say, give it 24–48 hours and try again, perhaps at colosseo.it.

Dishwashersaurous · 22/02/2024 22:48

Hmm, so it's clearly me. As I clicked on that link and got the same error message as I'd previously be getting.
