How much would you pay for a week holiday?

Looking at booking a break away for me, husband and 2 year old daughter.

It's our first family holiday away and I'm a bit alarmed at the prices! But this may just be quite normal.

To give me a sense of this, could anyone let me know how much they generally spend on a one week holiday?

i have just priced return flights for 18th - 25th May to Alghero (Sardinia) for 2 adults and 1 child totalling £300/400 dependent on luggage/seat options. There are plenty of hotel options on the coast for under £500. Car hire for the week on top - I suspect that you can do it for approx £1000. Or spend more onthe accommodation if your budget is £2000 or eat out more. Up to you. Avoiding school holidays is key and with a 2 yr old, you can! Personally, I would take a one week holiday in May/June and then take another week in mid Sept.

£6k July-August for a week in Gran Canaria for 5 people. I think dd1 is an “adult” now and dd2&3 will be in holiday terms next year.

GilaMonster · 21/02/2024 16:40

We have booked 2 weeks in Cyprus end June for 2 adults, HB, taxi, etc, total £2880

We had a week in Spain during Feb half term, 2 adults and 1 toddler.

Cost £1k including flights, Airbnb and spending money.

Ooh that’s an interesting idea, is it not quite cold though?

Thank you so much for responding.

And sorry for not being more specific. That's partly because I'm open to options. But so far I have been looking at a week in May in Europe - Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece.

It sounds like the prices I have seen though are pretty standard by what people are saying. Approx £2k

That sounds so reasonable, just wait till you have to go in school holidays and everyone wants their own proper bed.

I'm astonished at these prices! Even with getting stiffed for being single, my most expensive holiday this year is a week 5* luxury in Rome for £750! I'm going wild on hols this year. Its cheaper to go abroad than stay in London for my theatre trips!

BeaRF75 · 21/02/2024 17:25

This is impossible to answer. It would depend on the type of holiday, when, where, budget etcetera. I would usually aim to go as top end as I possibly could, because holidays are important to me. But, equally, if my budget just covered a few days' camping, then that's what I'd do.

DrCoconut · 21/02/2024 17:34

About £200 - £250 campsite fees plus fuel to get there and food (but we'd eat anyway so it's not a true holiday cost). Discretionary spending for a day out, takeaway etc.

What board basis though? For those that go self catering or all inclusive will make a huge price difference.

But lots of people are saying 2k for a family of threee which is the same as you spend per person…
Also surely you understand some people have the means to go long haul, pay for luxury etc etc.
Your world must be very small if this thread astonishes you.

9 days all inclusive tenerife feb 25 half term for 2 adults and one child -2.8k. 4* though and upgraded room to something we didn't really need but it's for a special occasion (would of been 2.5k otherwise) also includes seats together on plane - jet2

It was 24C throughout and lovely!

We don't like it sweltering hot so was perfect for us :)

Kittycat333 · 21/02/2024 18:20

@Valtine2 you've totally missed my point. I always go luxury, especially when I go long haul. People are getting ripped off!

I'm not saying you dont. What board base have you booked? Because there's a big difference in price or a single/friends holiday and then needing a waterpark family friendly holiday.... I don't think its me that's missed the point tbh.

I can find good hotels but as soon I Starr search certain facilities the prices shoots up.

NCForQuestions · 21/02/2024 18:26

Have a look at Holiday Pirate - they aren't a holiday firm they just find deals. I've been eyeing up 16 nights B&B in Thailand at £1600 per person in July, but they have a 5-7 nights at £300 per person and often free kids in school holidays.

GoosieLucie · 21/02/2024 19:49

A week in the UK in April, in self-catering accommodation on the south coast, is costing just under £2k - and that's before we've bought any food or paid any entrance fees etc! 😳
It would probably be less if it weren't in the school holidays.

bravotango · 21/02/2024 20:16

We're doing a centre parcs knock off in Holland for 7 nights, accomodation plus ferry was £900, first week of July. Probably going to budget around 5-700£ for when we're there.

Ohhelppp · 21/02/2024 20:25

We spend between £5-7k every year for a week of skiing… and that’s not luxury accomodation 😳We try to keep summer holiday budget lower as a result and would never pay over £4k for a week somewhere.

Triptastico · 21/02/2024 21:47

For fairly decent accommodation in Europe, I budget around £1k per person, flights and accommodation. Sometimes plus spending money sometimes including spending money - depending on the location.

2chocolateoranges · 21/02/2024 21:52

The prices of holidays has rocketed since covid,

2022 we paid £2100 for 2 adults and 2 teens 3 star self catering 7 nights
2023 we paid £2200 for 3 adults 4 star bed and breakfast 7 nights (same place was £300 per person dearer!!!!
This year we paid 2800 for 3 adults 3star plus bed and breakfast 11 nights. 1

it just depends where and when you are looking for.
