Has anyone been on a European river cruise?

The ones that Viking etc do? If so, what was it like? Was there a variation in ages of people on the boats?

Yes, we have river cruised with Emerald, Budapest to Amsterdam, and Saga, Budapest to Vienna and back, this one with a classical music theme.
There were no children on either boat. The Emerald trip had more 30-50 year olds, Saga everyone 50 or over.
With river cruises you get to see more than on a sea cruise, because you are obviously close to the banks. The scenery through Germany etc is very picturesque.
We are cruising around Venice and the lagoon in June in a small boat (Uniworld). Big boats are no longer allowed in Venice.
Cruses on the Rhine and Danube can be affected by the water levels. Too high and the boat can’t get under bridges, too low and likely to be stuck on the river bed. Something to bear in mind.

I've done 6, but always term-time to avoid kids.
I don't think they would appeal to children anyway.

People tend to be over 40, but I've seen younger.

No experience but the "Travel like a Viking" radio ads do make me laugh.

I wouldn’t consider going on a sea cruise as I suffer badly from seasickness. I have literally thrown up on a cross-channel ferry in the past.

A rice cruise might be possible if that is much less of an issue. Has anyone felt sick on a river boat?
