Dream holiday left me wondering where next...?

Last year DH and I went on the holiday of a lifetime to Universal Studios Florida - we had saved for some time and it was a late honeymoon to ourselves (no DC yet).

Went for 2 perfect weeks and can honestly say every moment was wonderful, no bad points, not-so-good days or off moments and now it feels like nothing can compare!!! I'm a big Harry Potter fan so think that played a part but also sunshine, so much to do and plenty of opportunities for fun.

Does anyone have any suggestions for something equally as busy/joyful/spectacular? We are saving to go again and know many people say it can't be beaten but feel we need a smaller, just-as-good location for this year. Did anyone absolutely love Universal then find something as good or better?

Please let me know, it's been several weeks and I still have major holiday blues!

We loved Universal (we did a mixture of Universal and Disney on our trip) but still rate Costa Rica as our best ever holiday. The country was amazing, literally no bad bits, plenty to do, just perfect really.

I would normally have loads of ideas but your idea of a great holiday is miles away from mine. My spectacular holidays have been the Galápagos Islands and the Arctic. Real life adventures and not theme parks.

Agree. I have loads of places that I've loved, but I think my taste in holidays is different from that of the OP.

Hope you find somewhere nice, OP.

I love Florida especially the theme parks they are fantastic but equally I have loved Thailand, Dubai, Italy, Egypt (you see where I’m going with this). What constitutes a good holiday for you? For me it is somewhere with plenty to do and see - it doesn’t need to be theme parks, it could be amazing cities or a rural location with cycling for example.

You could just go back to Orlando? Or try Tokyo or Anaheim - you have a mix of theme parks (Disney and universal studios) but also a different scene/culture. It depends on your budget also.

You could also try Europa Park (Germany) or Portaventura (Salou) if you are looking for theme park resorts closer to home and a bit friendlier on the wallet.

Maybe go to the theme parks in other counties.

There's nothing wrong with going to the same place again. Especially if you've no yearning to see somewhere else in particular at this time.

How active do you want to be?

I loved Thailand but it was mostly relaxing and eating nice food, so quite different to Universal.

Rome is lovely and there's lots to do, but again it's different to a theme park.

If it's specifically the theme park you liked, how about another? Paris or California?

DifferentAlgebra · 22/02/2024 11:04

What was it you liked so much about it? I assumed this was a child-centric holiday until I noticed you said you don’t have children, and I confess I find it mystifying that adults would voluntarily spend a whole fortnight at a theme park, but if you say what exactly made it so special, maybe people could suggest other theme parks?

Many years ago before kids I had an amazing holiday in Canada - white water rafting, Calgary Rodeo, amazing hikes, stayed on a ranch for a few days, Native American settlements, Vancouver. Maybe not a perfect example but you could find a country of interest and design a trip like that picking out things that sound amazing to you?

These days our holidays are all about our kids and so we always pick somewhere with a decent theme park or water park (this year is EuropaPark).

Have you thought about Dubai?

Maybe Mexico and visit the X Parks if you like nature and swimming. Or an all singing all dancing cruise ship?

I just asked my 25 year old DS who absolutely loved our trip to Universal Studios and he said New York (we are actually going in May) and Japan are on the top of his wish list.

wineosaurus4 · 22/02/2024 13:37

Do a cruise! Royal Caribbean for sure. For me, cruise holidays are up there along with Orlando.

Funf · 22/02/2024 19:05

Another vote for a Cruise

EnterNowhere · 22/02/2024 19:07

Disney in California and combine with something like Vegas or San Fran? Abu Dhabi has some good theme parks I think. I've also been to Disney in Hong Kong.

Definitelylivedin · 22/02/2024 19:07

If you like theme parks, have you been to the Puy du Fou in France. It's amazing.

clareykb · 22/02/2024 19:09

We did the california theme parks followed by an all inclusive in Mexico...that was fab.

California road trip with vegas, disneyland and LA universal.
You can inclued grand canyon or Yosemite for some nature rafting and hiking.

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 22/02/2024 19:13

My spectacular trips have been the US west coast road trip, the California road trip, Hawaii, New Zealand road trip, the Seychelles, Canada.
Maybe try Mexico and go to Xcaret and the other parks. We stayed in the Occidental Xcaret hotel and it has its own entrance to Xcaret park, you can buy tickets that cover the duration of your stay so you can come and go as you please.
