Any Melbourne mums please or people with knowledge of Melbourne Australia?

The DCs and I are off to Melbourne next week to stay with my sister in Diamond Creek and also to stay with a friend who lives in Mount Eliza. Said sister and said friend have given me completely different estimates for how long it will take to get from one to the other. Can anyone tell me for sure please? I'll be hiring a car probably although if I can do it by train then I might take that option.
Also, any really nice hotels with swimming pools, leisure centre etc near-ish to either places that we can go and stay in so that
a) we do not out stay our welcome and
b) give us a rest from being polite houseguests.

And one more question please. How long will it take to get to the airport from Daimond Creek or Mount Elza?

Many thanks in advance.

You could try www.multimap.com - it suggests about an hour from Mount Eliza to Diamond Creek.

Looking at map, airport looks about 20-30 mins tops from Diamond Creek but this is based purely on estimate looking at the map.

No idea about hotel, etc. Sorry.

Hi mckenzie

It will take you roughly half an hour from the airport to Diamond Creek. Diamond Creek borders on being quite rural so you won't find too many hotels about I can't imagine, but there will be something if you just google Hotels Diamond Creek. Might be more along the b&b lines...

It will take at least an hour to get from Diamond Creek to Mt Eliza, depending on what time you are going. I would have thought longer actually, more like an hour and a half.

Mt Eliza to the airport is a pretty big distance, I"d be leaving yourself at least an hour and a half. It takes us an hour from Sandringham and Mt Eliza is a good 1/2 hour further along the beach from us.

MT Eliza will have more options on accomodation I would imagine as its on the coast in a very popular area.

Please don't hesitate to contact me if you need more info, I am pretty familiar with both areas

thank you Melbournemum. Much appreciated. What would you suggest we need clothes wise now? I'm assuming it's cooling down quite a bit but my sister seemed to suggest we still need what we Brits would call 'summer' clothes.

The weather's just changed from late 30s to lots of rain. And then it changes. Again. British summer is about right.

Layers are the thing. Light mac, sun hat. Don't forget the sunscreen -but buy it in Oz.
