Last year me, dh 12 year old did for Summer holidays 3 days in Barcelona and then got train down the coast and stayed in an all inclusive for 9 days. I would like to do similar this year but am struggling to think of city we would then do train journey to resort/Beach destination. Any ideas would be appreciated please.

Lisbon and Cascais Portugal

Malaga city itself. There is a beach there, or you could get a bus to the many touristy resorts along the coast.

As a day trip, we got the train to Ronda to see the amazing bridge.

Italy, Venice and then Lake Garda… or many other places. Spoilt for choice in Italy!

Lisbon and then a short train ride to Cascais

Malaga, Alicante and Palma are all cool little beach cities with easy access to other resorts and all are close to airports. If sticking to Spain, I’d add Seville, Cadiz and Valencia into the mix although they might require more travel to get to initially depending on which airport you would be flying into.

In France, I’d go for Nice or Bordeaux as the initial city. Venice and Naples would work in Italy, Dubrovnik in Croatia and Athens in Greece although you would probably take a ferry to your onward destination from Athens rather than a train.

Thanks for the suggestions, I will take a look. In terms of costs when in countries (activities/eating out) is there any noticeably cheaper or all they more or less on a par?

San Sebastián and Biarritz/St Jean de Luz would be lovely (there’s a daily bus from San Sebastián to both Biarritz and St Jean de Luz- it’s pretty short and we did them both as a day trip from San Sebastián).

There are sites where you can compare cost of living

Athens and then get a ferry to an island?

reluctantbrit · 20/02/2024 21:49

Granada and then to Malaga?

Bodrum or Antalya. The old town of Antalya is lovely and there is so much to see in terms of history around it. Then amazing all inclusives to enjoy after you are done.

Valencia. Bus to beach 15-20 mins away.

Athens then on to Naxos or Skiathos

Lido and Venice

Athens and a nearby island or the Athenian Riviera - two birds, one stone.
