European city breaks for dairy-free / vegan diets?

Does anybody have any recommendations for European ciy break destinations that cater well to dairy-free / vegan diets, particularly in terms of dessert?

Obviously it depends on the restaurant, but I'm just looking for cities where it's not uncommon to find at least one dairy-free / vegan dessert on a menu, other than just boring old sorbet.

Food is a big part of my life and usually factors quite keenly in my holiday plans, but since becoming sensitive to dairy I've had to think a bit more about which cities to select in the first place.

Thanks in advance!

My daughter and I went to Copenhagen in 2022 and LOVED the vegan options there.. still the best place we have visited. I don't know about finding vegan options on all menus as we sought out dedicated vegan places. The Netherlands was pretty good and Berlin is next on our list!

Quite few vegen options in Lisbon.

Berlin is really great (I’ve been here 5 years), the best cuisine in the city is international though - I don’t think I have ever been to an actual German restaurant. Vietnamese, Thai, Japanese, Middle Eastern places are everywhere and all offer vegan friendly menus, with a lot of them being fully vegan with the most delicious dishes (and desserts) on offer. Berlin in general has a very modern, hippie vibe and I’d say 90% of my friends and colleagues under the age of 35 have gone veggie or vegan.

So as long as you don’t mind not eating a lot of local food, Berlin would certainly fit the bill. Vegan currywurst is definitely available, and that’s the trademark food in Berlin, so you can have that at least!

Athens, a lot of greek dishes are naturally vegan.

I'd say Berlin too. Loads of options!

Berlin, Amsterdam, Budapest, Lisbon, even Paris has loads of vegan options now.

Brussels is a great city to explore and had plenty of quirky interesting veggie eating places.

Download the Happy Cow app. It shows which restaurants have vegan options.

Agree Berlin was good, lots of restaurants had vegan options as did Amsterdam.

Berlin as it has a very modern restaurant scene and not a huge amount of local food.

Or anywhere with a Eastern Orthodox tradition - Athens, Thessaloniki, Sofia etc. They may look at you as if you are mad for being vegan but they have lots of food for fasting days which is naturally vegan. If you say you are fasting everyone will know what you mean.
