Booked 3 days/2 nights in April. Planning on Orhei and Curchi and Cricova winery as a combined day trip but what else? Transnitria looks unsafe currently

Yet another hopeful bump. Any restaurant tips

Milestii Mici winery definitely worth a visit.
Can't remember the names of any restaurants.

I went to Transnistria a few years ago (day trip from Chisinau) and if it's currently unsafe to go then you're not really missing anything.

We got the bus over out of curiosity. There's the novelty factor of crossing a border that's not internationally recognised into a country that doesn't officially exist but there wasn't much to see.

There is fuck all in Chisinau apart from the wineries. And wine tasting. There are some surprisingly good restaurants there though. Don’t go to Transnistria.

Looks like I’ll have to do 2 days of wine tasting - I’m sure I’ll cope!

We didn't even do the wine tasting. I didn't know there were tours but I probably wouldn't have gone anyway because I'm vegan and wine usually isn't.

Agree that there's not much to see or do in Chisinau. We've been to quite a few places in Eastern Europe and that was probably the bleakest.

Travelismything · 08/04/2024 22:25

I’m planning to visit every European capital
hence Chisinau. I’m definitely not going to Transnistria - wouldn’t be insured as against FCDO advice.

We went there before the Russian invasion.
I've just had a look at the map on the Foreign Office travel advice page. I'd forgotten that Transnistria is on the border with Ukraine.
Although it's a self-declared, independent Republic, ut only survives because of Russian support.
No wonder the travel advice is against going there.
