Haven

I’m struggling to find a holiday for a group of 4 families that meets everyone’s budget expectations. Haven looks like a result. Some questions:

  • Is it horrible, it seems very cheap?
  • Is there a queue for the pool etc?
  • can you bring barbecues?

Thanks all, we are a group of broke families with young kids!

I love a haven holiday! The kids love the kids club!

Not horrible at all. You can book swimming and many other activities weeks in advance. Do check out how much extra the activity passes are if they're not included in your booking as they're not cheap!

Really rate them

Fantastic hols with Haven (Cornwall) when kids were little

Been to a couple of haven sites, nothing wrong with them, you book times for the pools so busy yes but not unbearable

Comedycook · 12/02/2024 20:07

It's not horrible. The caravans are clean and modern. There are loads of things for the kids to do. It's good fun. When we went we queued for the pool but it was during COVID time. No idea what it's like now. I doubt you can take BBQs as I didn't see anyone doing that when we went..but check anyway. The one we went to had a pizza delivery on site, fish and chips van, a shop and a pub serving food. It's not a five star luxury holiday but it is way nicer than you'd think!

Love Haven.

Going back to Dorset Seaview for the 10th time.

We love Haven. Have been to a few sites over the UK and they are great.

We used to have BBQs as we would go as a big group of 30 across several caravans and as long as you are off ground and sensible its usually ok. But double check with the site to make sure.

You still need to book the pools, but if its quiet they will let you in without booking.

Get the biggest/highest standard of caravan you can afford but even the older ones are usually decent.

You can take BBQs 👍

Puddingpieplum · 12/02/2024 20:29

Haven is grand, they have everything from tiny quiet sites to huge sprawling ones like Devon Cliffs.
I'd get the cheapest caravan if you're on a budget, they are clean and perfectly serviceable, and it's more money to spend on chips and in the arcade.

trooc · 12/02/2024 20:40

It's not a cheap holiday. Have you looked at the prices? Nothing on site is cheap either.

I love haven but I use it as a base rather than a full experience.

Thanks all, I really appreciate your replies. It’s alway nerve wracking booking a holiday for a group. If all people say it is clean and a good time for kids, I am sold.

Thanks for taking the time.

We've used as groups meeting up for an event, was perfect

We've done at least one haven holiday a year (sometimes two!) for over fifteen years. 😳

We always go to the same site.
I always pay for a caravan with heating throughout (personally I like silver as a minimum but the bronze or savers will still be clean and functional and the guide on the website explains the levels and what they include very well).

I like to get a grocery delivery to my caravan to keep food costs down. Usually breakfast, lunch and snacks. I also buy sweets for the kids, a bottle of wine for me etc. Oh and a cheap loaf of bread for feeding the ducks. Most sites the big supermarkets will deliver to but just double check. I just pop a message in the delivery notes, to call for my specific van.

Not sure on BBQs, but it should be easy to find out.

Haven hideaway doesn't include the passes that you need for swimming and activities so make sure to get the holiday that includes passes.

Mine love the free activities like bug hunts, pond dipping, fossil searching on the beach, etc but they do book up quick!

It can be a really great family break on a budget in my opinion.

PringPring · 12/02/2024 23:20

If BBQs aren't allowed on site there are always the disposable BBQs, you could take those down to the beach instead.
