Bilbao weather

Has anyone regularly been to Bilbao and the Costa Verde and can give me an honest account of the weather in July?
I know it can rain but I want to be able to sunbathe and sea swim. I am someone who loves the heat so I’m a bit nervous that the weather may disappoint but I know that with young children it’s probably a more sensible option than Greece or somewhere!

We went to Bilbao and San Sebastián a few years ago. Weather was mixed and we had a few showers but even when it was showery it was warm enough for shorts during the day. I wore long trousers on a night. We didn’t really swim in the sea but paddled a few times and other people were in the sea. We sunbathed a couple of times but it was essentially a walking holiday and the weather was brilliant for that.

I'm going in August and expecting warm but grey and rainy. Any blue skies will be a bonus. Didn't they have flooding in Pamplona last summer?

I'd rather rain than somewhere roasting and threat of fire.

I'm looking forward to the guggenheim, nice food, relaxation and culture. Hoping to swim in the shared pools at the places I've book to stay but not expecting sunbathing weather.

Kids will still enjoy the beach.

We went for 2 weeks mid July 2022 and it was late 20’s - mid 30’s. Thank god for the sea breeze and air con. We did a road trip from Santiago de Compostela to San Sebastián.

We have family near Santander, so not too far away. It's rarely hot in the same way as the south or central Spain but generally the Summers are warm with a reasonable amount of sun. Obviously, like in any country you don't get green without water so there's no guarantee of wall to wall sunshine like you can expect in, say, Andalucia in the height of Summer but we've never been in July or August and had terrible weather. Our relatives house is close to a beach and it's usually warm enough to swim in the sea if we're there in the UK school holidays and I'm not particularly hardy!

Im from the Basque Country (I take you meant Costa vasca rather than verde)
you should be able to go on the water. It’ll be cold but manageable. Weather should be nice tho in the last few years it’s been really hot even in the north (35-40)

how long are you going for ?
San Juan de gaztelugatxe is nearby but must book
san Sebastián
zumaia

are nice places to visit tho you mainly need a car
if you like mountains there are loads in the area

Was there last September.
It Rained for hours every day but was warm.

Thanks all, that is really helpful! I don’t mind a bit of rain if it’s still warm and it looks so beautiful it’s probably worth it!

11-14 days I think. I was thinking of flying to Bilbao and travelling West to Llanes but I will check out these places instead, maybe no need to travel as far. Thank you!

Asturias is nice too. I’ve never been but can’t help with places but it’s amazing too so don’t let my comment change your initial plan :). Bilbao and Asturias should have similar weather
