Hi all,

DH and I have promised ds (6 in June) his first abroad holiday in may half term. Our criteria are the following:

  • 4 nights (prob Mon to Fri)
  • have to fly there
  • outdoor pool with ideally slides
  • near a beach
  • warm weather

We've looked at euro camp, in france mainly, and they look fab but wondering if we could do it without a car?

Cost wise not looking to spend 1000's.

We've not booked an abroad holiday since before we had D's so I'm a bit overwhelmed!

What airports can you leave from?

Ozzyskye · 11/02/2024 12:27

That would have been helpful to include wouldn't it! Any London really including Luton and stansted

I don’t think you can beat Spain for a first holiday, why not have a look at PortAventura??

Lanzarote or Egypt have lots of hotels with pools or go to Majorca and do a day trip to a water park.

Twilightstarbright · 12/02/2024 10:52

What is warm to you?

MinnieMountain · 12/02/2024 15:07

The Costa del Sol is easy. Fly to Malaga, then get the train to where you’re staying. Benalmadena is nice.

Funusername · 12/02/2024 15:11

Another vote for Costa de Sol. Fly into Malaga, short taxi ride into the resorts from there. Wide range of accommodation and nice enough hotels or apartments that won't set you back 1000s.

If you want definitely warm enough weather to swim I would look for the Canaries or Cyprus.

We went to Majorca in half term one year (didn‘t know, DD was only 3) and some colleagues a couple of years later on as well and there is still a chance of unsettled weather, we had 3 days of rain and low twenties.

Have a search for old Eurocamp threads. There have been a few over the last few years recommending sites that you don't need car hire to reach/use to take trips out. IIRC there are a couple of Italian sites that are regularly mentioned.
We always drive, so I can't help with which sites suit for flying, but we've found all the Eurocamp sites with water parks we've visited really well set up (evening entertainment, play parks, kids club etc) and significantly cheaper than hotels with pools that are anything near the scale of some of the Eurocamp water parks.

Thanks all, will look at suggestions. Warm to us is 20s and ok to swim outside - my natural habitat is a crisp frosty morning so no very hot weather!
