Driving to Dolomites

polopolopolopoo · 09/02/2024 17:17

Summer holiday - spending 2 weeks in Dolomites including the drive there and back from Calais Eurotunnel.

Anyone done this? Looking at spending 2 nights each way stopping over. Would potentially like to drive one way through France and reverse through Germany.

Any recommended places to stay en route?

No advice other than I think it would be easier to turn around and drive forwards through Germany. It's a long way to drive in reverse 😂

In 1964. When I was a child. We camped so I don’t think I can be much help.

We driven multiple times to tuscany / Venice / Slovenia and Croatia. We driven lots of different ways and stayed in lots of different places(!). You'll have a great time.
Munich is a very cool city in the summer. You can also stay in bavaria and see neuschwanstein (sp) castle.
Europa park is in the back forest and is fantastic ( much better than alton towers) esp for older children.
If you're going switzerland/ Milan and across the top of Italy, Bergamo is fabulous but may be a bit close to your destination.
Also really recommend driving over an alpine pass at some point and stopping and enjoying the view. San gottard is our family favourite but brenner pass probably geographically better for. Dolomites.
Enjoy you'll have a great time. If u haven't already found it the via Michelin website is great for route planning.
