Where in Spain?

Planning a family holiday for Sept/Oct 2024 or Mar/April 2025... Basically whenever I can get the best deal as we are on a tight budget. :)

So, to all you well-travelled ladies, where in Spain is best for...

  • A mum who wants to spend half the time lazing by the pool but the other half at the beach/local parks/children's attractions/shops etc.
  • A dad who has never been on a standard european holiday before, but has anxiety, so needs somewhere with lots of other English-speakers and amenities nearby so he doesn't feel totally out of his depth! Minimal to no travelling whilst there.
  • A 6yo and a 1yo who would like a decent children's pool and some sort of playground or games room at the hotel.

Would like the area to have a beach, shops, and restaurants within walking distance, plus some parks or fairgrounds nearby for the children!

Thanks so much in advance! Been such a long time since I was abroad and I'm soooo looking forward to a week in the sunshine with my babies. Smile

Lanzarote would be perfect for all your requirements.

Tootytoot78 · 08/02/2024 20:13

Mojacar Playa.

cupidsabsolutepsyche · 08/02/2024 20:24

Second Mojacar Playa, I went for the day a few weeks ago while visiting friends, and I think I will take DD there for a week. Everything within walking distance, British people to stop and chat to, without it being too much.
Fly in to Almeria airport, it's about 45 mins drive from there.

Menorca.

Thank you for all your replies! Will definitely be having a look. 😊

I can't recommend a hotel for you but the La Carihuela area of Torremolinos is nice - it's part way between Torremolinos and Benalmadena Marina . Long beach front with several beach bars, eateries, touristy shops. There is a small sea life centre in Benalmadena plus other wildlife parks and water parks you will be able to access easily by taxi or using Uber app. There are local buses or a train along the coast between Fuengirola and Malaga . It's about 20 mins from Malaga airport in a taxi.

Menorca.

I don’t think the weather will be especially reliable for Op’s travel dates here .. particularly travel in March / April. The Balearics can still be pretty chilly then . Similarly in October.

Malaga

doyouknowwhatimean · 10/02/2024 22:02

In March or April nowhere other than the Canaries would be beach hot.

In Sept or Oct you'd be fine pretty much anywhere.

We love Estepona on the mainland or Pollenca in Mallorca in the Autumn

mondaytosunday · 10/02/2024 22:09

Interesting @Tootytoot78 and @cupidsabsolutepsyche. I have a house in the mountains there and have been going since the 1960s when I was a toddler - no paved roads, no running water and no development on the playa! Mojacar itself is special, but the playa is where the English seem to go.

Notimeforaname · 11/02/2024 09:36

Canaries if in Spring. South or southeast of mainland Spain's coast in Summer (malaga marbella, Nerja etc)

Twilightstarbright · 15/02/2024 20:53

Benalmadena would work well for you. 15 min from the airport, enough English spoken to not feel completely alien, lots to do locally with kids and the promenade is fantastic to stroll along.

Overloadimplode · 16/02/2024 20:34

Yep, Málaga. You cannot beat it if on a budget. Cheap flights, great weather, well connected, beautiful, authentic town centre, beach you can walk to from town.
Be aware March/April may be Easter which is a big deal. We went really cheaply once flying on Easter Sunday. It was great.

Play Blanca Lanzarote would be perfect for you're family, it has everything you asked for.....Palmeras Gardens or Limonas Apartments are lovely and just a 5 minute walk to the beach and amenities. x

Agree. The only one of those months I'd say will reliably be pool lazing temperature in mainland or Balearics is September. October could go either way.

Los Patos Park in Benalmadena
