Where to go with DS13? Inspire me!

My DS has had a shocking time recently, but has really tried his best to get through it. I want to treat him to a long weekend away somewhere. We'd probably go Thurs night (at a push on a Thurs morning) and back Sunday night.

But where to go? He likes trying new foods, art galleries, films. He likes history, especially 20th century history.

He's also a Liverpool FC fan, so Liverpool is an option, with a tour of the stadium.

Any ideas for European city breaks that would be a bit of a treat? In the last 18 months he has been to Paris and Budapest and enjoyed both.

Thanks for any ideas!

How about Berlin? It’s a great city, lots of history and loads to do. We enjoyed it with DD when she was 17.

Liverpool is a fantastic city to see as a tourist, loads going on plenty to see and do many free attractions too.
The Speed boat trip of the Docks is a must as a part of the dock has no speed limit and if you are up for it they will take the boat flat out.
Its a walkable city so once you have parked most can be done on foot.
Some ideas here

Barcelona has some great art - the Gaudi park and house, Joan Miro museum, Picasso museum etc… I’d also suggest the Barca stadium tour and museum if he’s into football and Mt Tibidabo because my teens loved it. Great food too - tapas, paella, tortilla, churros…

I know he’s been to Budapest, but how about heading further along the Danube for a night in Bratislava and a couple in Vienna? Travel between the two by boat. They are lovely cities and Vienna has so much to see. DS12 and I visited the three cities in a week last year and loved it. Both cities are easy to get to from either airport.

Berlin, 100%. Worth it for the museums alone.

I agree that Berlin is exactly what you want! Had been going to say Budapest too.

Really disagree about Vienna and Bratislava, they are quite dull for a teen boy.

If you do go to Berlin, take a look at Fat Tire Tours. We did a brilliant bike tour with them. Think it was half a day, with lunch, in a small ish group. Was a great way to see the city 😊
