Pisa airport car hire recommendations

We're flying into Pisa in August for 10 days and need to hire a car. All I've seen online is horror stories about the car rental building being a little bit away from the terminal and with massive queues, up to 2 hours in many cases apparently. The past two years (in Palma and Faro) I've managed to find smaller rental firms that didn't have a desk and just did a meet & greet with the keys, paperwork all filled in in advance so we were on our way very quickly. I can't find anything that at Pisa though, and there are a lot of awful reviews about most of the firms.

Has anyone rented there recently and can suggest a good option?

Many thanks

All the car hire stands are in a separate building a couple of minutes walk away, yes, but there are loads and loads of them.
I suppose there'll be queues if lots of incoming passengers have all chosen the same company, but I've never seen queues of more than half a dozen or so at any Italian airport.
I'd also go with one of the reputable well-known companies. Avis etc.

Thanks, we're there in August so I fear it may be heaving but hopefully not as bad as reviews have made out. Avis want almost £700 for a tiny Clio for 9 days 😭.

Hoping someone might know a smaller friendly local provider (not rip you off claiming for damage merchants, I know which to avoid)

Try holiday autos, you can filter for full to full, on airport pick up etc etc THEN get your own insurance for the collision damaged excess waiver - last time £22 for the week opposed to £15 /day from the counter
Hired a golf or equivalent- ended up with an evoke
Ended up collecting from one of the "main dealers"

I’ve found https://www.doyouitaly.com/index.htm to be a really good site for finding good local deals. Last time we went to Pisa (2022) we got a shuttle bus to a hire company further away from the airport, and they were great. I just went with the cheapest option on do you Italy 🤷🏼‍♀️ Conversely, the previous time we flew to Florence and picked a hire company close to the terminal, and that was a pretty horrific wait. So don’t automatically assume proximity equals better service.

We had a hertz car, no queue, short walk to pick it up and then just dropped the keys into the safe box at the end of the week. I think it cost £300 for a week. Don’t know if you’ve driven in Italy before but just be aware they drive like nutters.
