Cavtat is lovely but there’s not a massive amount to do there. It’s know for its beaches, and it certainly won’t be beach weather. You could use it as a base for visiting Dubrovnik or venturing on daytrips further afield. It has some really good restaurants (some with an amazing view) but it will be too chilly in the evenings to sit outside.

It depends what you want to do during the day. Dubrovnik is lovely, but if you want warmth, beaches, swimming, I would go further south at that time of year - Cyprus, Morocco

Icedlatteplease · 04/02/2024 08:08

Oh! I'm not sure that's too positive!!

The hotel is offering half board which means we probably wouldn't be out too much at local restaurants but does make it very affordable

I mainly want to day trip: Mostar Dubrovnik and montenegro.

But I also want to snorkel and maybe have a go at diving. I'm now wondering if it might be too cold (although I'm happy to wetsuit It)

DD might not want to do everything she may just want to sunbathe or sit with podcasts relating to her a levels. The hotel does haVe some inside space

Cavtat is lovely and you can get the bus or boat to Dubrovnik and beyond. Watch out on excursions to Montenegro. There seem to be border tensions. We were stuck at the border for nearly 3 hours coming back and the tour guide said it was not unusual. That said, it was stunning. We stayed half board at Hotel Croatia which also has an indoor pool too and loads of lounge spaces.

Cavtat is really small. We went there from Dubrovnik on local bus in the morning and after lunch we were already on our way back. I wouldn't go there to stay.

That's where I'm looking at!! Was it any good? How long did you go for?

Did you try the snorkeling?

I suppose the killer might be if it was too cold to snorkel even with a wetsuit

Definitely too cold to snorkel. Maybe ok with wetsuit, no experience with those so so I can't say yes or no

We went in August and the sea was great for swimming- so clear. We didn’t snorkel properly just a face mask but saw lots of fish etc. I recommend a trip to the Elafiti islands to snorkel. I have no knowledge of what tfe sea is like in April though.
The hotel has 2 beaches, one on Cavtat bay which is a big concrete platform and one at the back of the hotel where the waves are much bigger and it is a series of rocky ledges. We didn’t need water shoes at either of these but for anywhere else you go, I’d recommend them. Croatia doesn’t really do sandy beaches.
We found the food good at the hotel particularly on Thursday which had lots of local dishes. The price difference between b and b and half board is so minimal as to represent real value for money. Check the board at breakfast each day to see what’s on offer.

Dubrovnik sea temperature in April www.seatemperature.org/europe/croatia/dubrovnik-april.htm is similar to Blackpool in August! https://www.seatemperature.org/europe/united-kingdom/blackpool-august.htm

Icedlatteplease · 04/02/2024 22:37

Oh crap! Absolutely no way I can snorkel in that, even in a wetsuit, it will set my shoulder injury off😢

I'm thinking I might have to save for a bit and go at a better time of year

April is way too early if you want guaranteed warm temperatures. Could you do June onwards?

Probably not this year. It just doesn't work financially, I'd need longer to save

Could you look at Morroco instead? Usually
some good deals at that tome
of year if you avoid Easter hols

Not sure I'd feel comfortable in Morocco as just female me (with ptsd) and DD.

Stupidly June time works best timing wise but that croatia deal was £600 more in June. I might abandon the snorkeling for this year and just do a cheap weekend trip to Malaga chasing castles.

I have been a couple of times and found it really safe tbh, they are a very respectful and majority don’t drink… especially if you stay in one of the bigger hotels. Essouria is beautiful

What sort of holiday are you looking for and what's your budget? Someone may be able to suggest an alternative!

We stayed at Hotel Croatia I April 2 years ago. It was divine. Lovely food, great indoor pool and lovely quir feel to the town. Went to Dubrovnik and an island tour, weather perfect for us.
