Hi. I'm planning a trip to Vietnam next March and would like to get the overnight train from Hanoi to Hue and maybe again to get to HCMC.

I can't work out which is the official site or the best site to book the tickets. Has anyone done this themselves?? Thank you.

I haven't. But have you tried TheManinSeat61 website? That has a wealth of information on foreign train travel.

If you plan to stay in Ninh Binh, you can do a night train Ninh Binh to Hue (Train route Hanoi to Hue via Ninh Binh railway station).
dsvn dot vn is the official site and use baolau dot com site for booking trains.

@dinhoecotour many thanks for that.

I haven't included Ninh Binh in the itinerary, I'm was looking at Hanoi to Hue and then Danang to Ho Chi Minh City so that we can avoid internal flights.

However Ninh Binh looks lovely!

Argh! I'm struggling to fit everything into two weeks at the moment. There is so much to see, and it is so spread out. Recommendations welcome.

I will check out dsvn dot vn and baolao. Have you used either?

Many travelers widely used those sites for train!
Ninh Binh is worth 1 or 2 nights.
It will be less cold in North and less hot in South if you travel South to North in March.

Hi @dinhoecotour

Thank you again. I am planning the trip in March as it seems like the best time. I had been looking at North to South as that seems to be the way the organised trips go. However South to North makes more sense as it would be better weather-wise.

I've just spotted your name so many thanks for your advice.

No problem, OP!

Make sure you watch Michael Portillo's Great Train Journeys as two episodes are in Vietnam
