Is it too hot in Sicily in July?

I really want to go to Sicily but I remember they had terrible fires last summer and maybe the summer before too. Is it nuts to contemplate going there in late July?

We went in August years ago. It was hot but not horrendous. I’d go again at that time of year. Depends on your tolerance. If you’re near the sea or a pool it will be fab. We did quite a lot of site seeing.

Thanks. I'm so tempted. We have reasonably high tolerance. I just worry it'll be 48 degrees like it was last summer!

We have been in August, it was very hot but we did sightseeing in the morning, siestas at lunch and swimming in the afternoon and out in the evening. Many buildings have very thick walls and shutters to keep out the heat.

I wouldn’t. Last 2 Augusts were crazy hot and Catania airport had to close for a few days because of fires. Can you go in June or September? I love Sicily but 45 plus will be unbearable especially with children.

My friend went to Sardinia last July and the kids were exhausted every day. Most days they had to stay indoors over lunchtime as it was too hot for everyone (from 11-2pm).

If it helps a bit, remember that 48 will have been the highest temperature from the biggest outlier among all the weather stations. That doesn't mean it isn't unpleasant, though. Do what the locals do and go to the beach at 6pm.

What is your tolerance? I was in Greece when it was 40 and we couldn't go anywhere without shade. It was pretty miserable. But some people love hot weather, what temp would you be happy with?

We're used to holidays in July/August in the hottest parts of the Med (Greece, southern France, Spain) and we're fine with high 30s but I reckon over 40 is probably more than we can handle!

Are you travelling with kids? i think adults can manage but wouldn’t do this to the kids. Plus I wouldn’t want to spend half the day indoors. We have booked Sicily in June this year.
