Any hints and tips for booking using virgin flying club air miles. Is there an easier way to see which routes/dates are covered? Thanks

Their website is much better than it used to be - you can now see number of seats in each class on each day. And if you're struggling the helpline have always been really quick to answer and resolve queries.

Thanks for this but doesnt the website only show virgin routes whereas we understood that you could use it on partner carriers too? When phoning they had to check each date for each destination only to say that carrier doesnt accept points on that date rather than being able to say which carriers dont accept points at all or not over xmas for example. Was hoping someone had an easier way to check this than us phoning to check every date and destination.

Yes. Use Seatspy. It's a subscription website, but it's only about three quid a month and they will show you all the routes that are available for your criteria.

On seatspy you should be able to search for partner airlines too. You may still have to phone up to book, though.

I would also check out headforpoints, which has a series of blogs they call Virgin Redemption University all about the topic.

Remember that if you are flying long haul in and out of the UK your points will not cover taxes which are roughly half of the air fare.

What were you thinking of using them for?

thank you so much that is extremely helpful. We dont have anywhere in particular in mind. We would just like to use the points as they have been unused for a long while. There are 6 of us and kids havent been outside Europe so somewhere longhaul either in summer or at xmas.

Seatspy have a 'where can I go' function where you can enter your range for outward and return dates, plus the number and class of reward seats you're looking for, and it'll show you a map of all the flights available. Also works for avios. Have fun!

Thank you for this. We have joined seatspy which looks great for everywhere virgin flies. Is there any way to see how to use our points with a partner airline or is it only with virgin routes? When we phoned virgin they said we could use partner airlines but the only system seemed to be for them to check each route and date manually on the phone call whereas we want to see where is available and then choose from that. Ideally south america if that were an option.
