What can we do in Fife on Easter Sunday?

The kids are 8, 6, and 20 months.

Nowhere that will be too busy or expensive A nice open space where the kids can run around excitedly would be good. Like ruins or something. Nowhere that is too far too walk because dh is on crutches after knee surgery.

Thanks

What to do in Fife?
Get the train out?
Only joking, but I'm a west coaster and can't let the side down.
I don't know Fife well, except St Andrews where i went to uni. The cathedral ruins are good and there are a million tea shops for a rest afterwards. Might be busy, but I doubt the ruins will be mobbed. There's the beach too and the Sea life centre used to be there. it's been a few years since I was a student...

LOL

The sea life centre looks good.

Unfortunately dh says St Andrews is a bit far. We need to be in Kircaldy late afternoon so somewhere near there would be good

Dunfermline Glen, lots of space to run about, hills to roll eggs on and plenty of picnic spce (and the freindlist squirrels in the world).

How about Dundee...lots of stuff there, Camperdown Park is nice or the Discovery Centre...or up the Law. Depends on the weather really,

nelliesmum · 20/03/2008 21:04

Mind you...further than St Andrews...sorry.

nelliesmum · 20/03/2008 21:05

All the coastal villages are nice if the weather's good...Crail, Pittenweem, Anstruther. But I think its going to snow isn't it?

Beveridge Park in Kirkcaldy has had a facelift (although I've not been recently), there is a boating lake and park as well as skateboard ramps etc.

Lochore Meadows Country Park nr Lochgelly (20 mins drive from Kirkcaldy) is good. Loch, nice playpark, lots of walks, an old colliery train that the kid can climb all over, a visitors centre with a decent enough cafe, a small pond which will probably be teeming with tadpoles, picnic tables and barbecue pits. It was my favourite bolthole with DS when he was little as it was far enough away (from Kirkcaldy) for it to be an adventure, and he loved the old train.

the paths are good for people on crutches and the park bit isn't too far from the car park

lackaDAISYcal · 20/03/2008 21:19

Lochore Meadows can be a bit cold and windy though if the weather isn't kind.

Dunfermline Glen good as well.

Burntisland has a huge links and a good beach for running around on.

there is the Fife Coastal Path, accessed at Seafiled in Kirkcaldy....ruined harbour, castle and rocks that are home to a seal colony (about 50feet offshore so guaranteed a sighting)

also Ravenscraig Park in Kirkcaldy; big open park, with walks through the wood down to the shore and to a lovely quaint little harbour.....there's a ruin there too; apparently it was James VI of Scotland/1st of England's holiday home!!

the museum and art gallery in Kirkcaldy itself is alright too, if a bit on the small side, but free entry. Nice cafe, and they have some Vettrianos (he's a local chap). They will probably have some Easter events on.

sorry that should have been Seafield

Wallace · 20/03/2008 21:32

i have local knowledge

in fact this is making me feel a bit homesick

Wallace · 22/03/2008 16:32

Turns out we won't be going, well dh and ds1 will but a friend will be driving them so I don't have to go. I am quite thankful seeing as the weather is so bad.

I will be saving this thread though, because the sport that ds1 does has many rounds in Kirckaldy. So we will probably end up with a lot of time to kill in FIfe
