Has anyone been to Vietnam in August?

We are planning a 'once in a lifetime' trip this summer. Haven't had a family holiday since before COVID due to DD (now 17) being very sick and in and out of hospital for the last two and a half years. Happily she is now MUCH better and can resume 'normal' life. Her 16th was rubbish, DH's 60th was cancelled as we were both too distressed, DS (now nearly 16) has missed out on a lot. DD doesn't want an 18th birthday party as she has lost contact with lots of friends having been out of school for so long. So we think a 'big' holiday in place of everything the whole family have missed - and want it to be special! Vietnam would tick a lot of boxes for us - but all the advice says November to April is the best time to visit. We are tied to the summer, which I know is 1) hot and 2) rainy season. Has anyone been in August? Did the weather preclude /spoil stuff? Thanks

We went to North Vietnam (Hanoi and Halong Bay) in August. Weather was warm and humid, I found it fine. It was mostly overcast but we had some sunny weather in Halong Bay. Certainly didn't stop us doing anything!

I lived in Laos so visited Vietnam a few times. It doesn't matter if it rains because it's hot, so you get soaked but it's actually quite pleasant. It's always humid. Also bar a few days when it will rain most of the day, largely it will chuck it down for an hour and then be dry. Go for it!

If you do not mind rain, it is ok (Rain in both North and South while it is dry in Central VN).

Thanks all! I think we 'll go for it!

I went to Vietnam in August and it was fine. Central was sunny so had some good beach days here (Na Trang, Hoi An). South was humid but fine, did a day trip to mekong Delta, where it did rain in the afternoon but no problem. Warm rain, over quickly. Hanoi and Ha Long bay was a mix of sun and humid rain showers. When it rains, it pours, but again, it's warm and dries up quickly. We didn't head to the northernmost hills, as rain can cause mud slides at that time of year.

I had an amazing time. One of my favourite trips.
