Does anyone have any good recommendations please!

Planning to take my daughter post GCSE's. As it's just two of us I'd prefer something pretty central or on an easy bus/tram/train ride from the centre.

We will do the abba museum one day and Tyresta natural park. Any other suggestions would be great too Smile

Been a few years since I was there, but the Berna hotel was fun / good location, good food, nightclub too. Or for something more traditional the Grand Hotel was also a good bet.

Thanks @crumpet, will take a look 👍

Vasa Museum...its a bit boat that was ship.wrecked and recovered ehich granted does not sound that cool but is amazing and the museum fascinating. Its very central.

We have been 5 times and always stay at TheRival- it's owned by Benny from Abba and is a lovely old mid sized cinema conversion on a beautiful square-3 minutes walk to metro and 2 stops to gamla Stan - heres the foyer- it's not cheap but not the most expensive out there- gorgeous bar and rooms

The Vasa ship is an absolute must. It sank in around 1628 and was a Royal gunship. It’s 90% plus preserved and you get such a detailed picture of life on board. We also went to the Swedish History Museum. The Gold Room is stupendous. All that Viking Gold. The other lovely thing to do is walk around Gamla Stan. Then take a boat trip around the islands. It’s beautiful.

The journey from the airport into Stockholm is quick. I just cannot remember where we stayed! It had lovely big rooms and had character. There’s plenty of central ones to choose from. I remember it was close to a branch of &OtherStories.

One more vote for the Vasa Museum.

Gamla Stan is ridiculously touristy and overrated. Get a good city guide/advice from Tourist OfficeMax and maybe do a walking tour of Södermalm instead, much hipper. And depending on time of year and length of stay, take a boat out to the islands.

The Nobel museum is worth a visit, it's only small and very central.
I would second a boat trip, it is a beautiful estuary.

@GrumpyPanda Sometimes, as a tourist I like a bit of a tourist area! To sample it. It is no different to any old preserved area in any city. There are all “touristy” . But we are tourists so the locals have establishments to appeal to us. I’m not so sniffy as to avoid such areas but it’s attractive, has a pleasant ambience and of course there are great places for coffee.

Miss Clara hotel was fabulous. Converted girls school and named after the headmistress.

Upsalla is very lovely and 30 minutes on train- Sodermalm is a great hip area , abba and vasa museums are fabulous -

The Radisson Waterfront is lovely, trendy and right next to Central station which takes you to/from the airport. Worth paying extra to have the fabulous breakfast included.

We stayed in Auf Chapman...hostel/boat. Simple and very clean, with a great location and views. Request room with view of water/royal palace. Enjoy!

SummerSazz · 29/01/2024 20:45

Thanks everyone. Vasa museum was also on my DD's list and a boat trip sounds a fab way to see the city.

I'll look at all the hotels - the Abba owned one and the converted girls school sound fabulous. A bit of quirky will go down well with DD 😊

Just noticed this is a boat! Again, a great and different option!

I did exactly the same trip with my daughter post GCSE’s (doing Norway post A’levels this year). We LOVED Stockholm (actually we loved Scandinavia as a whole). Best thing by far was the Vasa museum, it was awesome! Also loved Skansen, the open air folk museum. If you want a trip out of Stockholm we can recommend Birka (island with a Viking settlement) which is terrific. Have a wonderful time.

SummerSazz · 29/01/2024 21:02

How funny @Princessdebthe1st! This is DD's choice and she's done some research but the folk museum and Viking island sound right up her street. Think we'll need more than 4 days at this rate 🤣

We went for a week and still had things left to do!

SummerSazz · 29/01/2024 21:30

@Princessdebthe1st eek!!! I can't really take that much time off work so we'll just have to run round!

@SummerSazz If she likes all things Viking, see the gold in the History museum. Stunning.
