Estonia

I’ve got this bee in my bonnet I’d like to go to Tallinn in Estonia soon. And do a day trip to Helsinki by boat maybe.

Do you think Tallinn would be a safe place to go? What with the way russia seems to be at the moment.

Please don’t mock me either way - if you think safe or unsafe - I really hope it’s not a stupid question. I’m aware Estonia is a NATO country but not sure if that’s enough to keep it safe.

Went to Tallin with my mum. Enjoyed it, but it's quite small, (much smaller and less to do than say Bruges or Ljubljana) and there isn't that much to do, so the day trip to Helsinki will be good.

Enjoyed Nevsky Cathedral and just wandering around the streets. Nice to eat at Third Dragon / III Draakon
Tavern in Town Hall. Famous for Elk Soup. Took tram 1 to the palace. Booked Hotel Viri KGB tour. And then later also went to centre of town KGB prison cells.
Had a nice time but decided there wasn't as much there to interest us compared to say Lisbon, Dubrovnik or Berlin.

Thank you so much!! I’m not planning to go for long, just a long weekend

I went to Tallinn just after new year. It's really lovely and felt perfectly safe. You can easily see all of the highlights over a long weekend.

I’ve been to both Tallinn and Helsinki twice before, both times as day trips from cruise ships.
Tallinn felt very safe, I recommend the HOHO bus, the whole place is very pretty.

Thank you everyone.

When I talked about safety I was thinking about whether russia would attach the Baltic states but I suppose I could just not go at the last minute if it seemed as though they might.

It seems like I can do it quite cheaply so it’s extremely tempting

I think you can take some comfort from the fact that the Foreign Office don't advise against travel to Estonia. The Ukraine invasion didn't happen out of nowhere. There were Russian troops massing on the border in the days before, and widespread speculation in the mainstream media that Russia was about to invade.
